How do you feel about TimoKotipelto playing Black Diamond?
hi folks,
i read in another thread that TK played Black Diamond on his show in Buenos Aires! For sure its amazing for the people who were in this concert. But for me it feels very strange cause Black Diamond is one of Stratos most famous songs. Of course Jens Johannson were there too but its only 2/5 of Stratovarius and imagine Miss K have sung those master pieces its not the same as when the whole band is together. I think they should not play those strong songs like BlackDiamond Destiny Fathertime Paradise etc. until the band is together again(may be to show some respect to each other). Perhaps Timo Kotipelto invites Timo Tolkki to join his band for one or two songs on this show in helsinki which is when i got right about 26 december (ok stop dreaming )I hope you guys understand what i want to say my english is not so good.
What do you think about it

I don't see any reason why he couldn't play the song.

MissK was singing with TK?empi wrote:and imagine Miss K have sung those master pieces its not the same as when the whole band is together
I think if TK would sing Stratovarius songs that he wrote it wouln't have been a reason to discuss this, but in this case I think TK should ask TT (as an author) for permission, and it looks as he agreed, so this is a good sign.
So where does the power come from to see the race to its end?

Re: How do you feel about TimoKotipelto playing Black Diamond?
TK is an author of BD as well, not just TT. And from what do you know, he hasn't asked TT?
Re: How do you feel about TimoKotipelto playing Black Diamond?

Re: How do you feel about TimoKotipelto playing Black Diamond?
Since TK co-wrote BD he probably has equal legal rights to sing it&Yes, we do not know--maybe TT gave TK limited permission to use certain StratoSongs in his shows.

And remember, Timo Tolkki has played "Beauty has come" with Timo kotipelto at Gates of metal!! :headbang:

Re: How do you feel about TimoKotipelto playing Black Diamond?
......If there is the case that TT give him permision it's ok, but personally, yes i agreed with ya Empi, if i would be there on that moment it would have feel kinda strange to hear him sing just along with jens, but IT COULD BE GREAT TO HEAR THEM ALL TOGHETER SINGING THEIR BEST SONGS! theoretically, any band can play any song live, no matter who the author(s) are. and i don't think that TT minds some promoting, because the only way to actually sell the song is with strato.

Re: How do you feel about TimoKotipelto playing Black Diamond?
There's nothing wrong with it, as TK helped to write the song. As a matter of fact, when Bruce Dickinson left Iron Maiden for a while, he sung Powerslave and 2 Minutes to Midnight when he toured.

Re: How do you feel about TimoKotipelto playing Black Diamond?
I think this is rather a good thing... It means TK somehow still feels like a StratoMember.

You should ask if it is okay for Paul D´ianno to sing Aces High and Fear of the Dark...
(yep, the audience was screaming for him to play them!)

Re: How do you feel about TimoKotipelto playing Black Diamond?
I think is normal that he played some Stratosongs in his solos shows!
Personally Black Diamond is not my fave song, & makes me feel a little bit nostalgic when I hear that song
I would like to hear different songs

Actually, damn, now I really HOPE that Koti plays Black Diamond, since I just got my ticket for his show in Nosturi, Helsinki.
Since he's got Jens on the keyboard, it wouldn't be too bad to hear the tune.
Jens is the only one who should be allowed to that famed beginning of BD.
Oh, sorry, off-topic a bit.

Re: How do you feel about TimoKotipelto playing Black Diamond?
i don't think that there's any problem with TK playing stratosongs, it's the band "kotipelto" covering "stratovarius"
remember, strato usually play against the wind, distant skies, twilight symphony, hold on to your dream.... without lassila and ikonen...
i think it's the same

Re: How do you feel about TimoKotipelto playing Black Diamond?
It's not Black Diamond without Kotipelto After all, he did write the lyrics.

Re: How do you feel about TimoKotipelto playing Black Diamond?
I remember Sonata Arctica playing Black Diamond (also on Infinite Visions), and it appeared like a bad joke. I think it's okay when Kotipelto sings it with his band, cuz the voice is the soul of a song. But we shouldn't forget, that TTs guitar playing isn't in the place. I'd really like to know who it sounds without the other "real" Stratovarius-members.

Cant see any reason why that should be wrong!

As I know, SA didn't play BD on a concert. They were playing only for fun. Re: How do you feel about TimoKotipelto playing Black Diamond?
Yea, I agree. I mean it's expected that Kotipelto would perform some Stratovarius numbers, and Black Diamond sort of goes without saying. However I'm sure it WOULD have a different tone to it, since it isn't Stratovarius performing it. Still, that's no reason at all that Kotipelto shouldn't perform whatever the hell he wants to. I mean it's not like he's covering something from "Hymn to Life" or "Fright Night" or something Strato/Strato-esque that really had nothing to do with him!tkbdadsgshim wrote:i don't have nothin' with that , i think it's ok , well for me , but it's not the same , it's the voice of koti of course , but it's not the same feeling, i don't know, anyway .
Still, if I were ever to see Kotipelto perform (like THAT'S ever gonna happen!), I'd love to hear him do a STratovarius song.
I have a question. Would it be considered COVERING STratovarius, since the Kotipelto-band alone (even WITH Jens) really isn't STrato? What do you think??

Re: How do you feel about TimoKotipelto playing Black Diamond?
I just hoped their Strato-cover choice would have been a little more creative. I mean, haven't we heard Black Diamond few times already?

We have, and I think that it's ok. It's a really great song, and people like to hear really great songs. Why not cover it every once in a while?ElDiablo wrote:I just hoped their Strato-cover choice would have been a little more creative. I mean, haven't we heard Black Diamond few times already?
