Popkiller or not Popkiller, this is the question!

Post by Beast_Pete » Sat Jan 15, 2005 4:01 pm

Many of the fans were against this name: Popkiller. It's not the official name of the upcoming album, just (was/is?) the project name.
We have already heard the story about the name. But are you still against it or not?

Vote, and tell us, why you voted so.

I voted no, and I'll explain why.

All of Stratovarius' albums have had more... mystic names, more related to fantasy and imagination... Visions, Infinite, the Elements..

That's why I believe Popkiller isn't a very good choice for a name. I'm not saying that this new album should follow in the footsteps of Visions or Destiny, I want it to be brand new and to inovate, but I believe these sorts of album names are already a trademark of Stratovarius :)

Well, I voted with "No" as well. I'm not radically against this name, and it's kinda funny, but knowing, that many people would be scared for the first time hearing this name, it's not a good idea. And Twilight Legionnaire was right: after names like Visions or Destiny, it's a bit strange. But I bet Tolkki will find a new name (maybe he has even composed new songs... absolutely new songs, none of the Popkiller songs will be on the upcoming album I bet).

What's the story behind this name ? Seems I've missed something... Anyway I also think this name is quite weird but hey I'm so happy there IS a new album, I don't really care what it will be named.

I voted "no", who was the freaky who voted "yes"? XD, well, anyway, I think its not a good name for a strato album for the same reasons twilight legionnaire said, its not a mystical name, it has nothing to do with nature of philosofical stuff. But I really think its an interesting name for the SINGLE of the album or, at least, for one of the songs, dont you think so? it could sound like some of those freaky strato songs(I call them that way) such as It's a Mystery, the curtains are falling, playing with fire... I think its interesting for an album to have at least one of those freaky songs, and this could be popkiller!!!!

Yes, on metal storm web its announced the same date and name too, well I watched it months ago but there it is, still announced and I suppose on metal storm too I dont know... maybe it was the original release date, and nobody gave more notices, nobody said: "Hey! there is no more stratovarius this album will not be released!" Now that stratovarius has returned I suppose this will be modified

A band i really like had an album called "Our Newest Album Ever".

Why can't Stratovarius have a name like that?

Popkiller just does not sound right.
I think a title should be in reference to their resurrection, the new beginning, the arising from the "ashes" of near destruction.

I'm going to think on this theme/concept&see what I can come up with! :D

*HEY! Great idea for a contest! ;)

Yes, why not? ;) Let us find a new album name. :P But first, we should wait Strato agree on it. :D Or maybe we find out a name, then advice it to them. :)

BTW, that february date seems to be a bullshit. It must be a gossip, nothing more. But hey, do you boys and girls remember, when we said in 2003, that the breaking up gossips are false?
But how the hell could they record it so fast?

not that hard, if they want to put out the material that was discussed last year...think of that, it is allready half-recorded.

But is it the same material, that Jörg and Jens started to record in last may or april? If yes, then it's possible.

You see, I like the name Popkiller. This is because I don't like pop music and it kindov' makes a reference to Killing Pop. Thats would rule, if pop was destroyed. GO TOLKKI!!! THE NEW ALBUM WILL BE EVIL WITH MAD SHREDDING!!!!! AAAAAHHHHHH!!!!!~~~~~

A srato album CAN'T be evil, and if so, then stratovarius really changed. Popkiller name was created douring tolkki's madness if im not wrong :?: and the new material the same way! I remember tolkki saying that the new material was aggressive like cradle of filth or something like that I cant remember well. So if they are using the material created douring tolkki's madness then for sure there will not be the typical strato freedom-happy songs(I call those ones that way :P ) such as liberty, freedom, glory of the world, paradise, learning to fly... I think the next album will be more like VISIONS... you know: kiss of judas, coming home, abyss of your eyes, before the winter... dark themes, and wondering themes(at madness time for sure he was wondering why the fuck was he at that state of mind): Will the sun rise, father time...(those from EPISODE)... but thats only my opinion!!! maybe its totaly different!

I hope gerr, that there'll be a song like Destiny as well. And as I know them, they will make a progressive title song. ;)

I want to hear the music of Timo's darkside. It will be bad ass. I like Strato's stuff the way it is, but a dark album would fucking kick ass. We heard enough happy tunes. Time for some EVIL!!!

I didn't vote, cos I really don't mind what it's called, so long as they release it!!

But an unpopular name can put ppl off buying... I liked Freedom Call when I saw them, but their album was called "Stairway to Fairyland"... :?

I also voted "NO", and for the same reasons Twilight Legionnaire explained too.

I love strato's cover-art, the first time Stratovarius catched my eye was when I see the cover-art of Twilight Time at a magazine when it was just released and really loved it, and I loved the album title too! It was in my "must have" list even if I haven't heard a single song of them, and I didn´t get disappointed.

"Popkiller" just don´t match, and I can´t imagine what kind of cover-art could go with it, but I think I wouldn´t like it.

Buuuuuut, I will buy the album anyway.

I really don't have an oppinion on this, honestly I dont care. Popkiller sounds more like a Frank Zappa album than a Strato album, but why not.

i really dont care about the album's name.

If it will be as good as Visions, for me it will be called also "Popkiller" or "Eminem's curse" or "1000asdf? NO!" or "Event Horizon"...

I'm just expecting GREAT MUSIC! that's all

I don´t think that it suits to Strato.
But I don´t care about title...I´m interested in songs on this album
