Why are so many songs named "Undertow"?

Here's a list of bands, off the top of my head, which have a song named "undertow":

Chroma Key (Kevin Moore, ex- Dream Theater)
James Labrie (Dream Theater)
Mr Big
Tool
Genesis
Pain of Salvation
Lamb of God

....and countless more. What the hell is an undertow anyway? And why are there so many songs about this phenomenon?

It means "the stuff which accumulates in your shoes"

I think it falls in "wow that sounds somehow cool" territory.

https://online.gema.de/werke/ 119 hits .... and with next stratovarius album, 120, thanks for the tip!

 I have an humble suggestion of lyrics for you. :? :? Melody can be "Strangers in the shoes" after mr Cool Edits idea...

Strangers in my shoes, and I am not enchanted,
Strangers in my shoes, they can be planted,
and I'm going mad before the day is through.

Something in my shoes is hurting,
I can tell you, it is so alerting,
And I'm sure it soon comes out with jerking,

Something in my shoes is not inviting,
And to walk along is not exciting,
Something tells me, it now is under my toes,
There absolutely is something in my shoes.

Maybe some small dots I have collected,
Maybe some small gravels not expected,
Up till the moment I found them out,
They were just a glance away and just about,
But they are now in my shoes, under my ten toes...

It means "the stuff which accumulates in your shoes"

I thought an Undertow was like a body of water flows faster under the surface, and exerts a lot of pull and it pulls people under and many times they drown. ???

:) I know nothing about "Kraken" but the most about "Undertow".

!.Undertow is a current, that flows, in a different direction from the surface current, for example the Gulf Stream in Atlantic.

2. A hidden tendency, often contrary to the one, that is publicly apparent.

3. The downperiod in Bipolär or Omnipotent depression.

4. A male clothing, size LXXXXX, worn next to the skin, and under other clothing.

5 Malign outgrowth under male pigs hoofs.

6 A collection of debris, under the toes, in mostly boots or stout shoes.

7. A blow or a kick delivered, (as if) by a booted foot.

8. The last bugle call at night, blown as a signal that lights are to be put out...

That was all for today folks...The undertow is blown for me...

well I do "Forever" like Track 13 thinking the most sweet mood posible in browneyedgirl, really im very thankful with she why sha was the only one persons that no shot "shit""Nigga" and more stupid stuff here.....

Of course, is a overproduced versión, Im sorry but Im a freaking obsessive for the pomp music and for me, all need to sound full of glory......

In this time, browneyedgirl, i compose a 1700 chorus, thinking in "mozart'requiem style, and a full guitar orchester with 6 electric guitars like ambient sound and all ones with one direfent melody, you can image one full choir of human voices very melodic but with guitars.....

I added to a duet of tenors in ambient mood and my voice in independent melody in duet with the flute.

I hope that you like it and thanks for be so nice with me.
