I was surprised when I head either load or reload, can't remember which. I felt "what is the big deal about? There is still that Metallica stamp on it."

Re: Metallica.....
It´s still metal. The kind of metal I don´t like, specially if you are a REALLY OLD FAN.... and they know most of their fans thinks that. If you releases a new album, and then you arrange a super tour, it´s supposed that you will support your new cd. 2 songs in 2 hours 1/2 of show? 2 songs of the Load, 0 of the re-Load, 2 of ST. Anger and... 18 of the oldies?? come on!! what´s the point? On stage they are super, but IMO, they aren´t honest with themselves.

Re: Metallica.....
<Nu Metal> anyone?
I actually like the idea of getting a modern sound and trying new things, like the last Dream Theater Album which was also very modern sounding, IMO. But St. Anger simply wasnt very good
And no, its not really metal i think

Looks like nobody understood the greatness of St.Anger
It's a very brave album, actually. I'm sure they knew that it sounds like it was recorded in a basement using whatever stuff they found there, but it takes guts to release it under the name Metallica. Metallica are metal and St.Anger rules (IMO, of course, just don't kill me ).

yeah...they are not like time before but i think the same way they are still in the darkside....jejejj

Re: Metallica.....
There´s no comparison with the oldies: Master..../Ride..../Black Album are simply masterpieces. That´s metal, thrash metal, very rude heavy metal, call it whatever you want, but definitely, it was heavy metal made with the heart. It´s good to try new things, to explore new ways, but without losing your identity. And Metallica, in the studio, lost it many years ago. I saw them in 1991, and that was amazing.... now they are still good at stage., but they are living because of their past. And that´s ironic!

Re: Metallica.....
I have nothing against the fact that St. Anger is stripped to the bone. Van Halen1 also sounds like it was taken by one shot and sounds great. It's the music that has gone bad, St. Anger (apart from solo's) doesn't have that certain something that I miss in the tunes.Shurik wrote:Looks like nobody understood the greatness of St.Anger

You are most certainly right that St. Anger is a brave album. Today people talk about good mixing and sound quality, Metallica showed that it aint that necessary.

Re: Metallica.....
Metallica is, and will alwyas be, metal!
Sure, their style changed after Master Of Puppets, when Jason Newsted entered the band (why oh why did Cliff had to die?), and changed again when he left. But the band only came out better in the end.
Gotta admit, at first I thought St. Anger contained mostly songs that seemed very simple and unimaginative, they did have a deeper meaning to them, as they describe what the band members went through during the 5-year absence since Garage Inc..
And who cares if they mainly play old numbers live? Most other metal bands sill do their oldies and don't focus as much on their new songs as they should (Slayer, anyone?), but that doesn't mean they suck or aren't about metal anymore. The oldies made the band what it is today: the mother of all thrash metal bands and as long as there are fans willing to hear them play those on stage, that will never change!

Re: Metallica.....
Definitely, I don´t want to follow them as close as before. I will never attack them really hard, as they were one of my beloved bands since 1985, but their changes have been so deep that I can´t assume then.

Re: Metallica.....
I've always thought Metallica were quite bland and have never understood why Megadeth and Iced Earth aren't bigger than they are.
