Re: Your favorite drinks
Well, german beer is probably my favourite, but there are also other beers with the same quality standards. I drink of all them , so there´s no discussion! I remembered chequian beer was excellent, a bit strong, but with nice taste.

I don't understand that much about beer but I know I like all kinds...
it only needs to be reeeealy cold, I can't even think about drinking hot beer... even dark beer i need to drink it really cold.
Beers I like: Quilmes, Braumeister, Heineken and Erdinger... and some other cheaper stuff...

well, for a change:
the drink you most hate!!
I hate: gin, vodka, rum and of course tequila.
Also I don´t like that kind of beverages made of fruits, like cherry liquor, etc.

Wow! You were in Slovenia, quite a long way from Scotland! Where did you stay? I dig the regions around Bled with the mountains and the lakes. A great place to have a vacation, especially if you combine it with a visit to the Croatian beaches.Yodith wrote:Beer - especially Slovenian since I was there on holiday last year. Mmmm... Zlatorog

PS: I agree, Zlatorog is a pretty good beer. Ironically however, you will pay a small fortune for the far inferior regular imported Heineken in Slovenia and Croatia, although we consider it the most common of beers in the Netherlands, where I live. I guess it is just a little bit of snobbery to buy an imported beer when you have excellent beers in your native country, especially if there really is nothing special about it. All in all, I think German beers are the best in terms of overall dependable quality and flavour. Belgian beers can be quite surprising in their enormous range of flavours. I love the good old Grimbergen and the Kriek. What do you think of Guinness?

Re: Your favorite drinks
Grimbergen is a glorious beer, it sure is. Hoegaarden is also very nice, with a slice of lemon or lime, of course. As far as Guinness goes: I would say one should treat it as a meal, not just a drink. The stuff is very heavy, but you know what they say: "A Guinness a day keeps the doctor away." But then again, people say many things that a sensible person would not take to heart. It is definitely not a beer that one can guzzle down like ice tea. Take your time with it, and have a decent meal beforehand.gon wrote:I love Grimbergen! here is quite expensive, but never mind, I pay for it.

You´re right, but I´ve tried many times, and definitely, it´s not for me. I know what you mean, with certain german beers happen the same, if you drink one of them you don´t need to have dinner. But it´s the taste of Guiness what I don´t like, not its heaviness.

From what i know you can also find it in Argentina, and in Paraguay it came this year... it has yerba mate taste a little of lemon, I like it a lot.Cristiane wrote:

Re: Your favorite drinks
You are from Brazil so you can understand me: with cold temperatures, it´s easier to drink a "heavy" beer, but, here in the south of Spain, sometimes is rather difficult; although, the Weissbier is excelent, but only in winter!Cristiane wrote:No doubt at all german beer is the best in the world.

Re: Your favorite drinks
Yes, I know what you mean. It tastes kind of rustic, like fermenting grass with a touch of licorice. It's definitely an acquired taste. I'd say that it's not a beer for the summer months either. A nice Foster Ice, a Miller Light or any German light beer is better to quench the thirst. But after a long walk in the cold fog across the Irish hills, a Guinness will go down nicely with a good steak and potatoes. But let's now switch to spirits for a moment: What whiskeys (or whiskies) do you like? I personally favour the softer ones, like Four Roses or Jameson, and always with three lumps of ice to give it that fresh velvet palate.gon wrote:You´re right, but I´ve tried many times, and definitely, it´s not for me. Re: Your favorite drinks
It's really difficult drinking some kinds of beer here in brazil too... the summer is so god dammed hot that sometimes I can only drink water.gon wrote:You are from Brazil so you can understand me: with cold temperatures, it´s easier to drink a "heavy" beer, but, here in the south of Spain, sometimes is rather difficult; although, the Weissbier is excelent, but only in winter!
As you said, Guiness and other stuff only in winter. As Sao Paulo is really cold on winter we can drink it easily...
About whiskeis I just love Jack Daniels and Johnny Walker... to be honest I don't like whiskey that much. I can't drink it only with water and ice, I prefer with Guarana or Red Bull.
