Best Solo-competition [Keyboard]

Here musicians can talk to each other about making music etc. Of course if you are not a musician you are still welcomed to this board, but the topics should somehow be about making music.

Best Solo-competition [Keyboard]

Post by Baluba » Fri Mar 11, 2005 6:33 am

Hey y'all!!!
I hope this interests you as much as it interests me :)
It would be interesting to see who on this forum can make out the best keyboard solo :)
Actually I can't do this,becoz I'm BAD at playing solos :(
But I know there are some of you who knows how to make a kick-ass solo :)

I would like to see this competition. I can't remember who, but someone could play Black Diamonds solo, which is not that easy I bet.
But this topic must be advertised on the Strato discussions side as well.

yeah. i also dont remember....
Btw, it's surely not easy but the real challenge comes with solos like those in Glory of the World or Learning to fly among all...if it took me 2 day (eg...i dont remember how much time i passed on this) to learn Black Diamond's solo on the keys....i passed 10 days on Learning to Fly or Glory of the world solos...

Anyway it is cool to be able to play a solo at a 90% rate accuracy...but it's MUCH fun and useful to find a personal solo and not try to copy exactly the original (nearby impossible in hard solos,,, Jens is unclonable!)

one thing i find truly amazing about jens (besides his skill, the bastard :D ), is his ability to coordinate with Timo, i mean check out holy light, speed of light and holy solos in VOE, talk about coordination, they improvise and adapt, beside the black diamond solo live is switched so i truly admire both.
btw way i find the learning to fly, know the difference and holy light solos harder than black diamond, i wouldn't know i only see the gp4 files but in my inexistent keyboard expirience i feel they are harder :D

Get a Yamaha. They're cheap and good, about £110 roughly...

Yes....Jens and Timo are real Pros! With a lot of experience on their shoulders. Adaptation and coordination and improvisation came only with feeling between musicians, and a lot of technique :) :D

I'd love to hear someone play the intro to sonata arctica's "the cage". Jens is a monster.

i think that the problem is not " play jens solos" i think that is the easy part... te problem is compose solos like jens ones... i want to see you trying, you should always have theory and techinque in the same level !

We should have a threat like this but for guitar solos!

Hum, and yet the easy part is not so easy....if your fingers dont work or have enough "skills", they dont work....
If i remember exactly in the old forum, once Jens said that he is at the point that he play solos...following a basic track but always improvising.

He said something like:

"Dont need to remind all the solos live because i can create on the moment beautiful and suitable solos as the originals every time i want" :D  eheheheheh

Btw Aresius....thanx for your nice words.

Yeah jens rulz.. i saw that he does that live but sometimes i miss the original solo anyway he uses the same scale so its fits in the song

I know that you need skill.. in the guitar is the same!! :) techinique and theory must be equal.. and there is another thing.. IMAGINATION!!!

no problem about the coments!

So we have two possibilities :

1) You used copy & paste and you're a cheater

2) You typed it obviosly not as fast as Jens' solos :D

Have any of you guys heard Vitalij Kuprij or Richard Andersson? If you like Jens you will like their playing.

Seems like Khamael is in the lead of this competition.
I haven't killed him yet sir,
But when I do, I shall have the stomach and the liver too,
And the floppily doppilies in their horrid glue.
