Battle: 30 Giant Hornets versus 30,000 Honey Bees

Post by Lucid Faia » Thu Jun 10, 2004 7:47 am

There's very little buzzing, if that sort of thing disturbs you. Just dubbed music and a narrator.

If you want to know the outcome of the battle... let's just say that I never thought I'd feel bad for bees.

QUOTE: The Giant Hornet is the world's strongest predatory bee.

I believe it after seeing this.

Enjoy.

It WAS a great battle scene. If you're particular to one-sided slaughters, that is. Those hornets were outnumbered 1,000 to 1 and look what happened.

So how many Giant Hornets would it take to rip a human apart?

Additionally, I would like to quote Peter Gabriel:
"Show me round your fruit cage, and I'll be your honey bee!"
Give me liberty, or give me cake!

A moment ago I watched the whole documentary of which this video was part. The japanese honey bees can defend themselves from the hornets by vibing and increasing temperature, thus killing the hornets. Ironic, but true: there's a vengeance for everything.

Yeah. The Giant Hornets survive in temperatures up to 45 degrees Celsius, and the Japanese Honey Bees survive in up to 50. So what the bees do is warm up their bodys to 48 degrees Celsius... O_o ... and pretty much pile on the bee and burn it to death.

However, it also depends on the proximity of the nests. If the nests are close together, the Japanese honey bees will be overwhelmed by the number of hornets.
