Well, here's the deal: I need a synth.
Basically what I'm looking for is something that sounds nice and got at least 76 keys. If it just where that easy, eh? Thing is I need (want) both a decent piano sample (I play at some local coffe shops and such things), a nice Hammond, some string sounds, GM support and I need a some sort of "editable" sound generator. An FM synth"thing" would be nice..
I got about 10.000 Nkr (Ca 1100 $) to spend.
I have been thinking on maybe buying a midi-keyboard and a sound module, but I really don't know what to look after in such things. I've heard of the Proteus 2000? Is that something that is worth the money?
Come on, people! I really need help here!
Synth, anyone?
Re: Synth, anyone?
I think you can get you hands on a used Korg Triton Rack for that money. And get a decent keybord to controll it (Yamaha is usually really good for this).
You could also check up Rolands JV/XV-series which is really nice. Jens uses a Roland JV-1080 when he's on tour for example.

So the triton is rather good? I've heard of it, but never heard it. I found an used jv 1080 for about 350 $... Is that about the prive you could expect to pay for it? Thanks for the advice anyway. I'll look up some tritons and hear what they have to offer.
By the way? I've got an dx-21. Could i wire that up with for example an 1080, and then use it as an controller? I mean, like if i press a button on the dx, could i program it to then change sound on the 1080?

Blah!
Re: Synth, anyone?
Triton is a good synth. It's used by Sonata Arctica just to name one. And yes, you can use your Yamaha DX21 to control the Triton Rack.I use a Yamaha DSR-2000 my self......which is quite crappy.......doesn't even support General Midi......but it works great.
I'm not sure about what to pay for a 1080, but not more than $350 for sure.

Re: Synth, anyone?
Thank you! This saved me from hours of talking to ill-smelling shopowners. I think I'll find another controler than the dx-21 though. It got synthweighted keys, and is not velocity sensetive..... But anyway. Thanks!
Blah!
Re: Synth, anyone?
Yeah, velocity is nice.
Re: Synth, anyone?
Oh, another question! If I use for example my dx to control a 1080, how would it work? Is it like when i press sound 20 on the dx the 1080 also changes to sound 20? Or does the 1080 have some sort of programming mode? So I could tell 1080 that when it recives this or that data it changes to this or that sound?
Blah!
Re: Synth, anyone?
Yup, that 's how it works. But I think that the sounds are divided into different banks with about 128 sounds in each bank. But there should be a USER bank too where you can gather you favorite sounds.
