The great census of young jazz band members

Here musicians can talk to each other about making music etc. Of course if you are not a musician you are still welcomed to this board, but the topics should somehow be about making music.

The great census of young jazz band members

Does anyone play in a jazz band? I do, the bass. Even double-bass (that's the english word for that large accoustic instrument which is in the viola family, I think, correct me if I'm wrong), if I'm provided with one.

The other members:

- Drums (our drummer from an other rock-metal band we play together in)

- Alto saxophone

- Trumpet

- Trombone (optional... the guy isn't a permanent member because he's on a university in an other town)

- Keyboards (with Hammond-organ settings or plain piano; our keyboard-player is in fact a woman)

So, that's our band. We only play our own compositions, what we produce during long jam sessions. It's light jazz, I mean, even "normal" people can listen to it.

I would just like to know, if such phenomena exist in other countries, and mainly under the age group of ours (I'm 17 and the oldest member is 21) because there isn't much to hear about that.

I have one band that plays everything, even jazz. I play alto sax, guitar and keyboards. In the band we go circles on who plays what and when.
I haven't killed him yet sir,
But when I do, I shall have the stomach and the liver too,
And the floppily doppilies in their horrid glue.

I should have known that there won't be much replies posted to this topic...

So, I'm quite happy that someone wrote something.

Alto sax? isn't that hard on jazz-level?

Did you study jazz theoristics or do just let the sound come out as the product of bare improvisation?

No I haven't studied anything, I just play that's all. Studying is too complicated, it's all about having fun.

I moonlight in a jazz band every now and then. It's an interesting pastime.

but everything i learn from jazz will end up in metal! lml
