I think Tolkki said in a Radio Rock interview once that Tuomo and Stråhlman had made the name up in a rehearsal :D
This is not Black Water, Sir. Black Water was the previous line-up. Here´s a short but correct piece of history: Stratovarius came to be in august-84, when Staffan, Tuomo and John had their first rehearsal. Tuomo came up with the name, it´s totally his idea. The band played some gigs and made 2 demos, then Tuomo fired Staffan, due to peronal arguments(I was just a bystander), in late december-85.Tuomo´s friend Timo Tolkki was asked to join the band on a very short notice for a gig at the Aalborg festival in Denmark in January-86. After Denmark Tolkki joined the army and the guys agreed to continue when Timo came back. After Timo had served his time, Stratovarius continued working. With a new main composer, the group´s sound had changed and Vihevä already going to a more groove-orientated direction left the band. Jyrki Lentonen was called on duty and the rest I is history I guess...-John Vihervä, Bass, Ben Granfelt Band- (Stratovarius 1984-86)

May I interrupt? Does it really matter who thought the name, or when they started calling Stratovarius and left the name Black Water behind?
    Silly discussion, I guess :?

Why Stratovarius history does not indicate that the first was the keyboardist Mika Ervaskari?

Finnish Journal of Music Soundi 1 / 2002 Timo Tolkki interview says that Mika left the band in 1987 shortly before receiving the first recording contract.

Man's first recording was Timon of his "Hymn To Life solo album, as far as I remember about the case.

Stratovarius spent well before 1987, and in this case, the name of Mika would Stratovarius history. You would think now the band's musicians to know who plays in a band and has performed at various times. Timo hired / asked his friend Mika keyboard. And the time that Mika was still involved in 1987.

Wonder what these 3 cute young men look like now? And those skinny-legged jeans of that era!!! I bet alot of Lanacane was sold in those days!:D Those were the days!

One tip about those skinny-legged jeans: before you put them on rub baby powder on your legs, they will slip on like a charm!

They look not so rocky-freaky nowadays ofcourse but still pretty good. I mean Vihervä and Lassilla. Don't know nothing 'bout Stråhlman. Lassilla even keeps his hair long..
