I was just thinking, that this band gathers so many great talents...
How awesome is to have Andre Matos and Tobi on the same stage singing such a great song?

"December 06, 2012
NEW AVANTASIA ALBUM: "THE MYSTERY OF TIME"
Today we have breathtaking news for all AVANTASIANS: The new album will be called “AVANTASIA - THE MYSTERY OF TIME“, and as previously reported is set for release in March.
Immediately after the release of this new Metal Opera, based on a story written by Tobias Sammet, the band will embark on a full-fledged indoor-tour, during which the band and special guests will bring the epic undertaking to the stage. Due to embracing all of the different eras and history of AVANTASIA these shows will have an extended playing time, and the whole evening will be dedicated to Avantasia with no support acts. Guests and album details will be announced soon!"
I can still remember how it felt like to be genuinely excited about new Avantasia / Sammet releases, around the time when Metal Opera III was announced. Now I kind of only hope he doesn't fuck it up too badly.

wow! i think tobias is the only savior of rock and roll and metal from this generation, he has gone to places other bands are afraid of, or simply they dont care to go to., i love everything tobias does (the exception being tinnitus sanctus) while other bands repeat themselves to death tobias still pushing this music fowardAAAAAAAAAA wrote:Avantasia is pure shit. Really? What are his best albums/songs? Post a few if you have a chance. I've heard Hellfire club and snippets from AvanGAYsia (teehee) and it sounded like very bland, generic power metal.adrian9 wrote:wow! i think tobias is the only savior of rock and roll and metal from this generation, he has gone to places other bands are afraid of, or simply they dont care to go to., i love everything tobias does (the exception being tinnitus sanctus) while other bands repeat themselves to death tobias still pushing this music fowardAAAAAAAAAA wrote:Avantasia is pure shit. Re: Avantasia? Anyone?
yeah you can say that about the metal operas, but i think even among those generic power metal songs from that era (remember the context when they were released back in 2001) there are fine masterpiece, im gonna do my personal top 10 tobi songs you make me think!!! i hate that!AAAAAAAAAA wrote:Really? 1.-States of Matter (Avantasia - the wicked symphony)
2.-All The clowns (edguy- mandrake)
3.-Vain glory Opera (edguy - vain glory opera)
4.-out of control (edguy - vain glory opera)
5.-Serpents in paradise (Avantasia - the metal opera 1)
6.-The seven angels (Avantasia - The metal opera 2)
7.-Devil in the belfry (avantasia - the scarecrow)
8.-Nobodys hero (edguy - the age of the joker)
9.-Under the moon (edguy - Hellfire club)
10.-Lavatory love machine (edguy- hellfire club)
in non especific order of course, i love all of those songs, if you dig up early edguy stuff like the ones from vain glory opera they sound a little more power metal than the today stuff that is a little more rock and roll.

Re: Avantasia? Anyone?
Touché. I think Tobias had an important part in defining what power metal, generic or not, is.adrian9 wrote:yeah you can say that about the metal operas, but i think even among those generic power metal songs from that era (remember the context when they were released back in 2001)
I actually really dislike some of those songs adrian9 posted, so here are my favourites if those weren't for your taste either:
Avantasia:
The Seven Angels (The Metal Opera 2)
Sign Of The Cross (The Metal Opera 1)
The Tower (The Metal Opera 1)
Edguy:
Tears Of A Mandrake (Mandrake)
Painting On The Wall (Mandrake)
The Pharaoh (Mandrake)
Nailed To The Wheel (Mandrake... you know what, just check the entire Mandrake album)
The Piper Never Dies (Hellfire Club)
Eyes Of The Tyrant (Edguy - The Savage Poetry)
Out Of Control (Vain Glory Opera)
Vain Glory Opera (Vain Glory Opera)
The Asylum (Rocket Ride)
Dragonfly (Tinnitus Sanctus)
I just realised great part of my Sammet favourites are over ~6-7 minutes long, so I think he's at his best when he breaks the pop-song formula and tries something more ambitious.

Re: Avantasia? Anyone?
If everyone posts their favorite songs then eventually every song will get posted and the discussion will become meaningless. Perhaps the nature of my request was inherently flawed!
I am so verbose recently. Yippee.
(i'll listen to some of those tomorrow)

Re: Avantasia? Anyone?
Loving the videos, I can't wait until we have more people announced. Hoping that we have singers that we've never had in Avantasia before like James Labrie or Roberto Tiranti.
I doubt that'd happen, but they're both amazing singers.

Re: Avantasia? Anyone?
Jorn did more than half of the past two avantasia albums is good to have him leave some room to someone new step in and do the tour, that is the smartest move ever!Kmasters wrote:Jorn Lande Confirmed hes not gonna be on the album but he will be on the tour

Re: Avantasia? Anyone?
New Guest Announced Mr. RONNIE ATKINS (Pretty maids) here's what Tobias said about it.
Tobias comments: "I have been a huge Pretty Maids fan since I was a teenager. I already asked Ronnie to be on the Metal Opera in 1999, but he was busy back then. Last year I saw Pretty Maids live, and they were a steam train on stage, unbelievable. After the show we met and Ronnie was a great guy. Finally after 13 years, I am really proud to have him on the new Avantasia album. And his kick-ass performance leaves no doubt: It was a great decision to ask him!"

Found Some comments about the listening session
- 2 Ballads
- 2 Long tracks (+ of 10 min)
Most Theatrical with a real orchestra..
- 'Spectres': theatrical.
- 'Savior In The Clockwork': epic.
- 'The Watchmaker's Dream': duet guitar/keyboards.
- 'Where Clock Hands Freeze': speed/power metal. with Kiske with a performance retourning to 1987.
- 'Invoke The Machine': Ronnie Atkins duet with Tobi. One of the best.
- 'The Great Mystery': closing MEAT LOAF-esque.

A PRODIGAL SON RETURNS TO THE WORLD OF ROCK
He hasn't been on stage for years, but he has shown his abilities as one of Germany‘s finest vocalists in the backing choirs on countless album productions. Now he will hit the road with Avantasia. Many of you may remember the legendary German band Heavens Gate. No less a singer than Heavens Gate vocalist Thomas Rettke will join the flying opera on the road!
I was expecting someone more prominent from the vague cocktease-post he released on Facebook, but ok, I'm still keeping my expectations low for this album.
Just get Hansi Kürsch and Jon Oliva there Toby! You've worked with them before and probably still have them on speed-dial.
Edit: ..That is unless it's already pretty much completed, like I would imagine if they've arranged listening sessions already.
Well, maybe next time.
