Keyboard help

Here musicians can talk to each other about making music etc. Of course if you are not a musician you are still welcomed to this board, but the topics should somehow be about making music.

Keyboard help

Post by Krigo » Tue Jan 14, 2014 4:48 am

Me and my friends are making a joke 80s hair metal band, and I'm moving back over to keyboard from bass, anyone have any good suggestions for some synths that would have the cheesy 80s sound but on the cheap side?

I could of course just use samples on a newer keyboard, but I'd like to experiment with an older keyboard.

A good start is to look for models that were popular in the 80's I guess. Maybe scour eBay for an old Roland or Yamaha or something? I have a VERY old Kawai at home that has some *really* cheesy sounds on it, so that might be a good place to start.

the dx7 would be the way to go if you can get your hands on one...it goes around 500$
if not maybe the arturia mini moog soft would do the trick.
