The past week the Southern USA has been a first coming of Hell. The temps have been over 100F. every day, and the heat index as high as 120F. Just a little taste of the afterlife. :D Well, socially, emotionally, mentally, and intellectually the South is in Hell(as well as 1,000 years backward), so why not the weather? :D

Do you all live in the outback, or in one of the cities like Sydney? Is it hot the whole continent? Australia is a very interesting place but I do not know much about it except what I see in movies, in the news, or read in books. The wildlife is pretty cool!

The vast majority of people live on the east coast (and around each capital city), we have a mountain range running along it which separates us from the interiors average climates. So its actually pretty good mostly. But sometimes it can get woeful, but not as bad as the west. Only the most southern parts get snow & its generally confined to higher altitudes.

Geographically its very interesting here, and id love to see it all one day. Our wildlife probably would be interesting to someone abroad, but you get sick of them sometimes here

Not everything is poisonous or venomous here. And everything that is, is small enough to stomp on, or run over, or shoot. Whatever tickles your fancy.

But I have good reason to not step foot in the ocean......

I heard about that mess! I'm sorry you all had to go through that. We have had some hot soaring temps for over a week now, like 100-107F., and that is regular temps not the heat index which gave us about 120F. "feels-like" temps. But we are fortunate in that we did not lose our power, and starting today it is cooling off--only 99F. forecast today. :)

Yeah, you apparently have things that can kill you just by looking at you, or something. Whereas over here the most dangerous things are council housing tenants.

Is Perth the "safest" city in terms of poisonous creatures?

Why doesn't your little brother New Zealand have the same dangers?

Well, there has to be a safe place for Hollyweird to do all those Lord of the Rings movies, etc. :D

Oh, New Zealand has the big volcanoes, and earthquakes, and didn't they find Nemo there? I mean, Captain Nemo, of course.

Yes we have those, but also several more dangerous species of box jellyfish. Along with Sharks, Crocs, Stonefish, sea snakes, blue ringed octopus. The list goes on.

In that respect it probably would be slightly safer than the East coast, but id say Hobart would be the safest.
I guess the reason NZ has no venomous creatures is due to migration of creatures during shifts of landmasses over the years.

Its not that bad.

But its no different here with the demographic that occupy public housing.

It's quite safe in Finland as well. There was a long article about what natural disasters are actually possible here. Tsunamis and Tornados would demolish Denmark, Sweden and Norway before reaching Finland but by the time they would get here it would already be too weak to kill anyone here. Earthquakes and Volcanos aren't possible since we have the Fennoscandian Shield making this possibly the most stable place in the world. Major floods are pretty much impossible. Only some coastal cities like Pori and Turku might suffer but who cares about them anyway
As for the local Fauna we have: Lynxes: Not dangerous and few in numbers, Wolverines: Only cause problems to Reindeer owners, Wolves: Practically extinct, Moose: A bit dangerous when driving, Bears: Could be Dangerous but only kill a person every 50 years or something, Adders: Possibly the only poisonous being in Finland and it's not really dangerous. + No lethal insects - Mosquitos are just annoying

Geographically, Australia is quite safe, being smack-bang in the middle of the thickest tectonic plate in the world.

However, we do get Tropical cyclones along the north-eastern coast. Highly devastating. Along with the full efects of La-Nina & El-Nino. Which cause either extreme drought or extreme flood conditions.

As for Fauna, well aside from what ive already mentioned, theres still plenty more. Our creatures may be small, but theyre a real pain in the arse. Mozzies can be deadly in the Northern tropics here. If anyone cares to be interested, I can list most (if not all) the creatures here that piss us off....

Making a list of the stuff that can't kill you would probably be quicker.

Is it true that even koalas are poisonous if you eat them?

 Nah we do have a few friendlier creatures too.

To be honest, im not entirely sure about koalas. They cant be eaten because theyre an endangered species, but what I can tell you is they are the only creature that can eat eucalytpus leaves & the leaves are poisonous.

Koalas are so cute!

Talk about weather extremes. Now we are having rain and storms every day. We needed rain, but it's overdoing somewhat! :)

Yes Koalas are very cute. But they make the most horrible sounds.

As for weather here, its been what we call "Melbourne weather". Really all over the place, considering its still Winter here, very strange.

Eat a koala? ??? I don't think I'd wanna do that--it would like be eating a favorite teddy bear, or a pet dog or something. :err: I just cannot picture anyone eating a cute little koala!

What about the kuccaburro bird? :D I have heard they have a hideous call, like Phyllis Diller laughing, or something. When I was in elementary school music class we sang a song about the kuccaburro and it's laughter. Are those little birds that ridiculous? :D
