I think (and don't misunderstand me i'm on your side) that your parents were jus trying to be... parents: when i was 15 I was into Hard-Techno and so my parents gave me a really hard time accusing me of being an amphetamine and exctasy addict and other bullshit like this, just because they red on newspapers that kids that are into heavy dance music "do drugs when they go to raves and then they become addicted and need more"...
Then (at 18-19) I started to listen to Marduk, Immortal, Children Of Bodom, Amon Amarth, Arch Enemy, Cannibal Corpse and Nile and it was all right, my mom said she'd liked some Children Of Bodom songs if the vocalist had singed instead of "screaming like a gutted pig"....
I think that parents become oppressive when something triggers their fears: yours were excessively religious so they feared that the "satanic" music could possess you, my parents feared the drugs so they pointed their finger at techno...
What I'm trying to say is that they (parents in general) point their fingers at anything they don't understand, and you'll always find someone that says that rock and metal are the devil's music....
And I think that your parents will listen to you only if they love You more than god, because if they do they have to trust You now that You are an adult and they should understand that songs cannot bend a mind (to do what, anyway? to respect nature? to think more about your life an the meaning of it? ar about the past and the future?).
If they don't, they love god more than You and they should have been a monk an a nun instead of father and mother.
Hope I didn't bother You all too much...

P.S.: If someone is thinking "Why he wrote in the Stratoforum if he is into Black and Death?" the answer is "Because after a couple of years I started listening also to Stratovarius and some other Power metal bands."

Kelainefes, I share just a part of your post. Parents ever want the best thing for their children and they gave all the best behaviour to them to see the growing up as they want (if the parents know their duty!!!). And they don't want to see (religious parents) their children drifting in a devil scene.
Fact is: the time is running; It isn't the same thing, the music now and the music 30years ago, the time as our parents were young.

So we can find people -parents and other freaks- they say that metal is satanic in general. But this is not true, you all know this. Any bands provocate with religion (and sometimes they are ridiculous) and other just play music to have fun and not to attack other people's religion.

I think I posted it in this topic, but I post it again: Why do bands only sing against catholics and not against moslems? - I give you the answer: they could never make a step out of the door without the fear to get killed

Maybe they sing against the catholic church because catholics have killed or caused far more deaths then muslims: it's written in history books.
A few thousands of deaths on 9/11 don't change the balance so much.
And I think that maybe some of them fear the fatwa, this I've got to give to you.

Yes, during the Crusades and the Inquisition, (I am not counting Hitler though...) And there are no famous catholic terrorist attacks recently... unlike the arabs and such
