Out: October 7, 2016

First single: Closer to an Animal
www.youtube.com/watch?v=EN1D5SFw2ZE

Track Listing
1. Closer to an Animal - 05:25
2. Life - 05:06
3. Fairytale - 06:38
4. We Are What We Are - 05:25
5. Till Death's Done Us Apart - 06:06
6. Among the Shooting Stars - 04:10
7. Rise a Night - 04:28
8. Fly, Navigate, Communicate - 04:27
9. Candle Lawns - 04:32
10. White Pearl, Black Oceans, Pt. II - "By the Grace of the Ocean" - 10:13
11. On the Faultline (Closure to an Animal) - 05:34
12. Bonus Track: Run to You - 03:34
Total Length 01:02:04 (01:05:38 with Bonus Track)

I have four observations:
1. The single sounds like a slightly more upbeat Unia, which is a style I like a lot. It also reminds me of Blood, a track I enjoyed, on an album I also enjoyed (Pasi's production skills notwithstanding), so hopefully we'll see more of that.

2. Assuming the times are accurate, longest album they've done. Silence is 61 minutes last I checked, and the others come in at under an hour. Not including bonus tracks anywhere.

3. Closure to an Animal - sounds like a reprise of the single. Another concept album, similar to Days of Grays? That one had a reprise too. Sounds good to me.

4. Track 10 is hype af

There was no guitar solo? I forget. I listened to the single the other day and that's all I'm remembering. Can't listen to it again right now. I'm hoping it leaks. J/K.

Man, I love every album Sonata has put out, but Closer To An Animal is just not doing it for me. The melodies are so meandering and weak and it sounds like the band is back there just playing whatever to chug along until the end, it sounds like they're all falling asleep while playing. I've never had a bad impression of a Sonata single until now. I hope it grows on me. Still very excited to hear the whole album and I hope WPBO part 2 takes some cues from Larger Than Life (pun unintended) in terms of orchestral grandiosity.

Tbh I felt that way with their last opener (The Wolves Die Young) but it's grown on me. Hopefully this one does for you!

Unlike Timo Tolkki, Tony seems to be pretty good at writing Part 2's. Wildfire 2 was definitely the high point of Stones Grow Her Name, so high hopes for this one! And agreed, Larger than Life really gave me a Queen vibe to it.

I don't really know what to think about the first single  It's not that bad, they have had worse singles on previous albums. The worst thing is probably that spoken part at the end of the song

What I find very interesting is that there will be a new song added to the "Caleb saga". I guess it might be "Till Death's Done Us Apart" because of suitable name and length. It better be damn good one, all the other parts are pretty much my favorite songs anyway.

The bonus track must be Bryan Adams cover, they played it when I saw them last time.

Can't wait to read some reviews...

is possible that the reviews says that the sound is a huge penis.

the song is more like Scorpions escence.

</object>

just like this,

I'm breaking the patience of my friend to re build this song, with epic sound and epic choirs and orchestra just as he know do very well.

but the singer, klaus maine is impressive, will be impossible change it

about sonata arctica, is the same that i said in stratiovarius post.

huge marvellous talented band killed for one shitty sound engineer, for that i forgot sonata arctica after the second album

actually i'm collaborateing with my friend with old tolkki ones, in the future, i will break his patience for new stratovarius one

This has the UNIA effect on me. I like it more with each listen.

It's way better than Pariah's Child that much I know, and there's some really good portions of the record.

The band is so much more mellow nowadays. Hardly the band from my favorite period (Reckoning Night, Winterheart's Guild and UNIA) but I can appreciate some of the new values they have.

I still can't dig it. Even Unia I was really into at the start.

This shit just blows.

I still feel like White Pearl Black Oceans 2 is a pretty sad imitation of the original. The reprised melody isn't anywhere as catchy or powerful.

It's horrible. It's a terrible sequel that meanders for the entire 10 minutes and never ever picks up the pace or goes anywhere interesting. Fuck that song and fuck The Ninth Hour. *spits*

SA is just not the same without Jani.

Cain's Offering delivers what's missing from SA. Wish it can become a permanent band with a dedicated singer.

I was expecting a bit more from this to be honest. Till Death's Done Us Apart is the only very very good song, then there's a few good or somewhat good songs, and maybe half of the songs on this album are boring.

I mean, Cain's Offering is more Stratovarius II than anything else these days. Has as many original members (From the Visions lineup) as Strato and has Kotipelto helping with the compositions and Matias mixing. Doesn't even sound close to Reckoning Night or Winterheart's Guild anymore.

I'd argue the real issue was when they stopped having Mikko Karmila as the engineer for their records. Passi's mixing sounds almost as dull and lifeless as RR's Trinity.

I've never understood why Jani and Timo play so many acoustic shows. It sounds good but there is only so much you can do with one acoustic guitar.

Is it just something they do to make ends meet?
