Is Matias Kupiainen the new Steve Vai?
Re: Is Matias Kupiainen the new Steve Vai?
I couldn't help but to laugh at that website
"Stratovarius is a power metal band from Finland. Hugely popular in Europe, they have yet to achieve worldwide success. " They seem to think that North America is the same as the world.
"For reasons unknown, Tolkki walked away, gave the band name and all song rights and future royalties to the group."
I think the "Joe Bosso" should have found out a bit more before writing that article.
But cool anyway. Matias is great, I just hope that he doesn't shred too much for Strato

no person who plays a PRS can be considered to be close to Steve Vai. lol j/k, but yea thats pretty funny how well researched the writer of that article is.

For the love of god im wispering a prayer that for blood and glory the music has some of those really melodic songs like liberty. This will be cool so see what kind of style Matias puts into his playing with the rest of the guys.

He's and amazing guitarrist... And so young. Perhaps one day!
Re: Is Matias Kupiainen the new Steve Vai?
Seems a very good guitarrist, but it's very young! It is not necessary to start comparing right now, mainly because we don't have an album from him with the guys.
Seems perfect for Jens/Jörg/Kotipelto/Lauri style.

I love the song Liberty. Knowing us Strato fans, it's no wonder why we appreciate the minor/melodic sound of Liberty Kudos and cool vidicecab21 wrote:For the love of god im wispering a prayer that for blood and glory the music has some of those really melodic songs like liberty. I think that this is the most stevevai'ish solo from me so far ...meanwhile more shredding...

thanks, awsome stuff, that has some great tone for metal. Sounds like you all are in harmony with each other and that is instrumental.

Agreed. Liberty is an awesome song, yet very underrated.Burning Reflection wrote:I love the song Liberty. Re: Is Matias Kupiainen the new Steve Vai?
I can't say that he's the new Steve Vai, because I never heard his material.
Do he have a solo album?
Anyway, comparisons are useless at this point...maybe in 10 years when
Matias are older and more experienced we can do this kind of comparison.
But Steve Vai IS a living legend, and that's for sure...
And I agree with someone who said that "Matias style is perfect for the 4 guys".
Take Care

I think that statement is really stupid. There has been alot of players that are greatly inspired (some maybe even too inspired) by Steve's playing.
The thing is that when I think of Vai I think of a lot more things than just playing and Matias is all those things... That's a good thing!

Let's give him some time to prove himself, so far he seems very talented.
