I finally saw Stratoivarius live
Had to go to Finland for that, but anyway, the show in Helsinki on 16/9 was great. The warm-up band - Serenity - were pretty good too.

Re: Nightwish parts ways with Anette
Yeah, she was rather bad with the old songs. The worst was probably Sacrament Of Wilderness, as far as I remember from their show here about 5 years ago.

Re: Ancestry and origins
Both my parents are Jewish and their families come from Eastern Europe (mother's family is from Byelorussia and father's is from Ukraine). My last name sounds Polish, but that's probably because someone along the way changed it from something Jewish, a common practice after the Bolshevik Revolution.

Re: Nightwish parts ways with Anette
On a slightly unrelated note - did they stop playing songs from the first three albums? I've seen 10 or so of their most recent playlists and they have songs from Century Child and later albums only.
I mean, a Nightwish show without Wishmaster or Sacrament Of Wilderness?

Re: Nightwish parts ways with Anette
Nightwish is Tuomas' band anyway, so they will find another female singer who will have absolutely no impact on the band's material and will tour with her until she says something Tuomas won't like. I liked Dark Passion Play, but Imaginarium was pretty lame and boring. Anyway, Annete was a good sing...

Metal shows in London
I'll be in London from 27/9 till 30/9 - are there any decent metal concerts there on those dates?
Same question about Dublin, 15-16/9.
I also intend to take a picture of myself in Spinal Tap t-shirt near the Stonehenge.

He's a freaking Julius Ceasar from Rome. Best casting news since Stephen Dillane, Carice Van Houten And Liam Cunningham were cast as Stannis, Melisandre and Davos, respectively. Ramsay Snow has already been cast, or rather a character who is not named Ramsay for spoilerish reasons, but judging from ...

Re: do your worst
I actually liked Virtual XI, more than some of the more recent Maiden stuff. Load is a load of horseshit, but so is everything Metallica did in last 20 years. You should definitely get Megadeth's Risk, straight from "WTF were they thinking" territory. Thankfully, Dave Mustaine forgot about this nons...

Re: HBO is going to adapt George Martin's Game Of Thrones
GRRM supposed to have a cameo in one of the first season episodes and i think I found him. At Dany's wedding feast at the very beginning there is a fat man with a gray beard dressed in a white robe, wearing a black tuban who presents Dany with a gift. He is there all of 3 seconds. I think that is t...

And now that the american troops are out of Iraq they can go to spread "freedom", "Liberty" and "Democracy" to North-Korea. Well that is exactly what they have done since the WW1 wheter the people want their "freedom" or not. And no I am not a communist or even anti-american. I am just disappointed...

Sounds cool, Shurik! :headbang: My youngest son is a fan of this band, and played a lot of their music before he left home. They sounded pretty good to me, a little unique in my opinion. Is their music classed as Folk Metal? It's hard to define their genre. It's a mix of folk, black, doom and all s...

I saw them live yesterday, they played a special double-sized show, with 2 separate setlists - one with songs from Ashes Against The Grain and Marrow Of The Spirit and another with songs from The Mantle, Pale Folklore and various EPs. I love this band and as much as they are great on disk, they are ...

I bet a lot of those high and mighty wealthy French fled the country in 2 seconds flat! Laughing Which made France a really crappy place. And then came Napoleon. RIP. Steve Jobs was a visionary who knew how to take an idea and develop it into world-wide phenomena. I'm not an Apple fanboy and don't own anything they released, but Apple products surely pushed other companies to develop similar (and perhaps better products).
