Re: Solitude (1994-1995)

The cover printed in this video shows two copyrights for track 12: 1994 Dark Wings, and 1995 NEMS (the discogs version doesn't have any year for Dark Wings) Ah, this means that there are other versions released in South America which contain Solitude. The Discogs catalogue is incomplete. I did find...

Solitude (1994-1995)

I only discovered this song today after listening to the entire first TT solo album. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hjGH8T63gCc I looked around but I couldn't find it on the B-side of any of the singles, despite being on the "Singles B-Sides" bootleg. It's credited to Stratovarius but given the lin...

Re: Which Song Would You Like Stratovarius to perform live?

They played Visions in full before, right? That would be nice to hear their newer albums played in full. Episode and Visions both. And I agree, something like Eternal in full would be cool... I don't know how many people at the typical Strato concert only know the old songs and how many have listen...

Re: New Stratovarius album: a list of demands

Into the Legend is fantastic. It's a throwback to the band's earlier success. I found the production to be minimal compared to their other albums. Maybe because of money constraints? It's more raw and less sophisticated, but that's what makes it good. I can better appreciate the music and chorus th...

Re: Which Song Would You Like Stratovarius to perform live?

Soul of a Vagabond or I Walk to My Own Song (sounds even better when they played it in D minor) From the new era, Feeding the Fire is underplayed and it's a better version of Paradise. Man in the Mirror/Fire in Your Eyes haven't been at all. Both sound like they'd be fun to sing along to. From the o...

That's an awesome, under-rated album by the way! On...theeeee...waaay....tooo....ainor! It was the album that got me into them :) Symphony of the Enchanted Lands took a while to grow on me, but I've enjoyed Frozen Tears since the first listen! There is a blast beat if you want to call it that at the start of Abandon. Next album: Matias writes a death metal song and Kotipelto goes full ROARRRRR. There's always a first time for everything. Re: Best song TT has done since leaving Strato

The RR demo sounds better than New Era but it's literally a Strato album so it doesn't count. +1 for Trinity. I think it is the last time Tolkki tried to do something new and didn't retread on his former work. I liked In Paradisum and Avalon 1, and a few songs on 2/3, but all of those seem like pale...

Re: Timo Tolkki's Avalon Pt. 3 and tour

My question is: Why paying 20 bucks for something amateurish, poorly written that you can have for free? The fact that Freedom is their loudest song is probably why I love it so much on a subconscious level. Infinite was my first Strato album and that was my favorite track for a few weeks.

Re: Stratovarius (2005)

It's because Maniac Dance is a redia, of course. From a songwriting perspective, it's vapid and, as you say, simple. In fact, it's too simple for me. Another factor is that when I hear it, it doesn't make me think "Stratovarius". It sounds like Stratovarius performing a cover of a different ...

Re: Stratovarius (2005)

Separately, Know the Difference is a great song, imo. I don't listen to it often, but I don't find it distasteful at all. Don't listen to glow in the dark CIA agent Zenith! Know the Difference is a great song. Yes, the chorus is not good, but as an entire package I approve wholeheartedly. Elements ...

Re: Stratovarius (2005)

Gypsy In Me's intro and guitar licks are unbelievably cool! That one might be my favorite overall here (nice Jens solo to boot). Stratovarius (2005)

A few days ago was the 15th anniversary of the black album. Since the band didn't bring it up on their FB page like they did for Infinite and a few others (maybe they'll do it for the 20th), I want to talk about it here instead. https://www.metal-archives.com/images/7/6/4/8/76480.jpg I'd have to ran...

Re: Timo Tolkki's Avalon Pt. 3 and tour

Maybe I’m just leaning toward the more straight forward type of Episode songs when I’m thinking about my favorite power metal. There is a time and place for it all. I’m sure they will try out different things eventually. I mean, with the nightwish, I can also listen to the old stuff with the classi...

Re: Timo Tolkki's Avalon Pt. 3 and tour

I like lots of type of stuff. Doesn’t have to be like a US riff oriented power metal sound. This is something like I’d enjoy for symphonic type: https://youtu.be/2GckrYjWsH4 I mean, I went through a phase where I even listened to Nightwish a lot. Mainly with Annette since I cannot stand the opera t...

I am a huge fan of Rebirth but Temple of Shadows has always been forgettable for me. No matter how many times I try to listen I always zone out and forget what I've heard. Re: Timo Tolkki's Avalon Pt. 3 and tour

I've got the same issue with Neon Light Child that I do with Gypsy in Me and to a lesser extent Forever Free, which is that the chorus is anticlimactic compared to what comes before it. Otherwise would have been a stellar song in my opinion. Agree on Into Deep Blue, reminds me of Scorpions' Wind of ...

Elements 1 is indeed Strato's opus magnum. I may have a personal bias since this was the first Strato album that I bought all by myself. :) I remember listening to Elements and Learning to Fly and be completely blown away. At first I assumed TK used some kind of auto-tune to get to his high notes, ...

I'd personally would like to hear Dreamspace and Fourth Dimension remastered. I think those two needed some additional mastering hours in the first place. Episode is fine. The issue is that a lot of the "cancel culture" people don't see it as "cancel culture" until it comes to the issue they're particularly sensitive to and then they ask to get it pulled. There's a much smaller and less vocal group of people who actually push back and say "no, twink jokes are fine" - ...
