What songs does Tolkki sing in?
I've heard a lot about him having a good voice... but I just can't seem to tell him apart from Kotipelto!
Maybe I haven't been listening carefully enough?

The first three albums, Fright Night, Twilight Time and Dreamspace. Especially Dreamspace is great
And there is one song on Intermission, i think its Kill the King, that is also by him..

He has a beautiful voice, I like hearing him sing! My fav songs are: Lead us Into the Light, Tears of Ice, Soldiers Prayer,Fire Dance Suite, Wings of Tomorrow, Out of the Shadows. Etc!
I think he should sing more often.

Tolkki's voice rules!
Sometimes I would easily prefer Tolkki's voice over TK's..
Especially on Dreamspace and on his solo albums he sounds awesome.
Think about songs like:
- Out Of The Shadows
- I Believe (<- personal fave)
- Hold On To Your Dream
- Fourth Reich
- Shattered
- Reign of Terror
- Soldier's Prayer
- Fire Dance Suite
- Now I Understand
- Little Boy, I Miss You
- etc.
.. none of these would never sound as good without Tolkki on the mic.

Re: What songs does Tolkki sing in?
Yea, I like Tolkki's voice a lot. It's funny, you can hear such an obvious improvement if you listen to the first three albums sequentially! He does some really cool things on Dreamspace... and his performance on "Fourth Reich" is absoltely creepy. Really chilling.
i'd love to hear him sing more-- I think there was already a topic about whether we wanted to hear another Tolkki solo album... I'd love another one, but not so much in the vein of HTL...
Anyway... but yea, he's a good singer... Still, hiring Kotipelto at the time when he did was a good decision. Maybe he'd gone as far as he could vocally at the time or whatever...

Re: What songs does Tolkki sing in?
Sorry to be technical, but how do these guys get rid of their European accents so easily when singing?
Also, TT&Koti both have deep speaking voices, yet they sing Tenor with ease---that takes lots of training/practice, doesn't it?
Another TT fav: Kill the King

Re: What songs does Tolkki sing in?
Err, they both have pretty high pitched voice when speaking too, Tolkki just sounds deep cause he's big, it's natural, but Kotipelto? I mean, his voice is loud and powerful when speaking but not low or very deep. I guess he can reach his lows like in Keep the Flame but his normal speaking voice is bright and high-pitched. Wanna hear a really deep voice? Listen Jordan Rudess speaking, he should sing some bass lines with DTbrowneyedgirl wrote:Also, TT&Koti both have deep speaking voices, yet they sing Tenor with ease---that takes lots of training/practice, doesn't it?
And if getting technical, when thinking about actual meaning of tenor in classical singing, I don't think either of these guys could fill a concert hall without amplifiers .
Re: What songs does Tolkki sing in?
You know, English is an european language Anyway this is not soo difficult, I can sing without an accent too (not as well as them, though).browneyedgirl wrote:Sorry to be technical, but how do these guys get rid of their European accents so easily when singing?

Re: What songs does Tolkki sing in?
Some people can do it, some people can't.... I find that Kotipelto DOES have an accent when he sings... It seems that most, or a lot of metal singers do, too... It's endearing, though, I like it!
the bass player in my band has a stutter, but when he sings (he's not our singer, but has sang in other things) he DOESN'T stutter. It's odd... guess it's the same with the ability to not have an accent when you're singing. maybe it has to do with them pronunciating things differnetly naturally when they're singing, the different tones, or maybe they really feel or become a different person when they're performing, I have no idea.
I've often wondered the same thing!

Re: What songs does Tolkki sing in?
Today I listened to Dreamspace and Fourth Dimension...
Is it possible that Dreamspace sounds harder, rougher and faster than Fourth Dimension?
TT´s voice and the drums are on Dreamspace clearer to hear :pacscat:
a little bit strange

Yeah, I like them too. By the way, is Lassila assisting on the back as well? It sounds like he is. In the other songs as well, Nightfall, Against the Wind etc.Beast_Pete wrote:I like his vocal assists, like the one in Distant Skies (on the album, Fourth Dimenson).

Re: What songs does Tolkki sing in?
It's a good question, as he used to be the first singer in the band. I don't know the answer unfortunately.MetalManiac wrote:Yeah, I like them too. Re: What songs does Tolkki sing in?
TT's voice is really amazing.......
But can't think of myself playing the guitar and singing at the same time, thats really hard.. sometimes I try to.... but with while playing a rithm or a solo on the guitar it becomes really hard....
.... so I just can say... great work...

Re: What songs does Tolkki sing in?
He's got a pretty nice singing cool voice too - the version of Rhythm of Time with the videos has an alternative version of each of the two vocal songs sung by Jordan himself (as opposed to Kip Winger who does the album versions) - they're pretty cool.Jaakko wrote: Wanna hear a really deep voice? I like Tolkki's voice on Soldier's Prayer.
The words to that song are touching, too.
Also(for the millionth timeLOL)Tears of Ice sung by TT is the greatest love/breakup song ever!

Re: What songs does Tolkki sing in?
Well Tolkki's voice sound's a bit like the one of an old, classical heavy metal singer.. Kotipelto is singing the same style, but a bit higher.
