If they used the tracks Jorg recorded for POP KILLER...

(Pop killer concept was suposed not to have any double-bass drums)
Does it mean there will be no double-bass in the new record?

Why not ? Jörg's double-bass (like may others') sometimes can get VERY annoying.

'Sometimes' mean 'extremely rarely', right? :D

For instance in what song? :s I personnally don't find it annoying, except in DImmu Borgir's songs, but Strato could be much worse...

Rhapsody anyone ?

For Strato's : Fathe Time, Millenium, Freedom, Glory Of The World... It totally ruins the melody imo

I concur with you a bit on Millenium. But....i don't have any better ideas, so i'm content to let the songs lie as they are.

Personally, thundering double-bass makes great highway music, imo...

It's not up to YOU to have bette ideas bu to the dummer himself. And I think originaly is defnitely not Jorg's (as many other heavy metal bands' drummers) strongest quality as a drummer...

Mike Portnoy is GOD ! (Along with Jens of course :D)

WTF? Do you not recognize that this is their style of playing? Please stop listening to Strato. If you think Jorg's drumming is annoying, go listen to a band like Metallica where they hardly ever use the double bass pedal.

Oh come on, that's mean.

Double bass can get a little claustrophobic at times. I love it as much as the next person, but sometimes it's just not the thing.

WTF? Double-bass is the base of power metal!
And imho, Father Time is a typical power metal song.
"Mikor az utolsó véred is elfolyék,
S a tested is a porba hullék,
Akkor is van még remény,
Mert a lelked továbbra is él."

maybe they use it and add something?
So where does the power come from to see the race to its end?
From within.

Some songs should have double-bass, some shouldn't.

I'm positive no better answer will be given.

Jeez, what a useless discussion

Just enjoy it

Strato doesn't need double bass to make good songs. Jörg uses a hyperspeed polka rythm on the faster songs :-)

No seriously, there are a lot of kickass metal songs without double bass, so i don't see a problem there. And remember, Jörg was alone in the studio when he recorded it, nobody there to tell him to calm down  :D

You're right! I just trust him. And also Timo's taste for making the right choice. If they have 70 GB of drums... it means so much options...
I remember Jens saying the drums sessions were doing so great.

Double bass rules.

Well, as they have stated, there have been alot of cutting-pasting.
for those of you who have ever been to a professional drum recording session (mainly for metal) will know that half.. or even most of what you hear in the finished drum tracks is actually pre-recorded drum samples which are triggered by MIDI signals, which is done to all drums except cymbals.. so this enables to work with the drums just like with a simple MIDI file.. and that means, add, remove, quantize.. so you can pretty "draw" drumming patterns which aren't really there, add the missing double-bass, fix rhythmic mistakes.. etc.

Usually there is a mix between the live recorded-drums and the samples.
and the percentage varies from one band to another.. depends on what kind of sound they want to get.

for the guy who complained about Dimmu's Bass-drums - this is probably the reason.. because it sounds more like a quantized dynamic-less drum-machine than a real drummer.

Anyway, I wish all the best for Stratovarius, and I really hope that the drumming and drum-sound will be as great as ever!

Daniel.
