No, it is not a replacer of any person
RSS is a service which is main used by e-news, mail lists and so on. I'll try to explain easily to non-computer-professionals: It's a way to know how the forum is without having to enter the forum. You just add a special bookmark or a RSS reader (so easy to use:
www.rssreader.com for an example), and there, you put in the bookmark the XML/RSS page, so from there, without having to access the forum, you know the 10/15/20 topics that are the most recent, auto-refreshing, so you just enter the forum when there's a topic or post that you would like to read/write. In this way there's no need to enter the forum constantly to know if there are answers to your topics or to know what topics are on the top. It's very easy to implement and very useful for both admins and users.
Maybe an admin reads this and tell us if they have even thought the idea
The way to use it would be so easy, and you wouldn't even need to open the Explorer/Firefox. You would install the rss reader I wrote before, and then you would add a new bookmark, and there would be some kind of this: "
http://www.stratovarius.com/forum/english/backend.php" or "
http://www.stratovarius.com/... // ... / *.xml" or "...*.rss". And then automatically you would know the status of the forum, the topics on top, topics answered, read them and you would be adviced when you like. It's very easy and useful.
note: none of the links I put before exist , so don't try . If you want to try as an example and tell us about this RSS service, try this with a very famous metal page:
1) Install the reader from
www.rssreader.com/download.htm
2) When installed, run the program. Add a bookmark (feed):
http://www.roadrunnerrecords.com/blabbe ... wsfeed.xml
3) You then have the information of the page quickly
