The Singles: B-Sides

Post by stratorobbo » Thu Mar 30, 2006 10:41 pm

I've seen this on some playlists before, e.g. on last.fm, and seen it occasionally listed on various unofficial sites.... but what is it ? Because it isn't listed on strato's official site, or metal-archives... and I have acquired all the 28 tracks in mp3 form....

what is it?

I'm sure that it's just some bootleg.

"Solitude" is bonus track from Tolkki's first solo album. Freedom's and Neon Light Child's demos are in Intermission's japan edition. Papillon's french version is in Elements pt.1:s french edition. Find Your Own Voice's and Soul of a Vagabond's demo versions are in Elements pt.1 special edition with demo cd.

This is something like Intermission, but a not official one.

Not exactly.
"Solitude" is originally a track from the T&T/Noise ballad compilation "Silent Crying - Ban The Bomb" (a really great album, you people should check it!). The track was supposed to be included in the (forthcoming) Episode album, but it finally wasn't. You can however find this song in some editions of the "Classical Variations And Themes" CD (Brazilian ?)... not sure if this is totally official, btw.
There is no keyboard on that track, and not sure if the drummer was Lassila.

@Bryant : you're right. Full Moon is horrible

I heard once from very reliable source that some demos before Episode were recorded with Janne Parviainen on drums. So, maybe he played on this track... :?:

Almost every live song on IV is played quite bad in my opinion. Sounds sucks and song just doesn't work very well on that dvd, expect Speed of Light's (very powerful live!), Out of the Shadow's and Infinity's live version were great. Forever Free (though I like this song very much) was really pain to my ears and 4000 Rainy Night didn't work at all.
One of my favourite strato songs, Visions, sounded so bad (I mean just sound quality, band played ok) that I nearly started to laugh...

I liked Speed of Light, Visions, Infinite and the clip where Jens starts to play Black Diamond from a solo in Santiago, Chile, the rest are ok, but not brilliant.

I think the clip is so bad because it´s shooted by a very crappy videocamera. Just wonder why they have put the whole song to the DVD, only a short clip would´ve been much better because of the extra poor quality. :?

I'm not so sure about that.
One thing I noticed : most of the reviews on this compilation are not positive. Many people think that adding Full Moon and Dream With Me was a terrible idea, at least to have them in the middle of the tracklist. I'm sure that the album would "sound" better if the bonus tracks were the last ones on this album.
And second thing : it's difficult to consider a compilation of Stratovarius without Destiny, without Hold On To Your Dream, without Twilight Symphony... but like says the album title, the final ones were simply "the chosen ones..."

That would be kind of perfect compilation to me :
(I only considered the period Fourth Dimension - Elements part II)

CD1 :
1-Destiny
2-Hunting Hight And Low
3-Father Time
4-Will The Sun Rise
5-Mother Gaia
6-Stratosphere (instrumental)
7-Speed Of Light
8-Visions (Southern Cross)
9-4000 Rainy Nights
10-Paradise
11-Cold Winter Night
12-Stratofortress
13-Anthem Of The World

CD 2
1-Will My Soul Ever Rest In Peace ?
2-I Walk To My Own Song
3-S.O.S
4-Black Diamond
5-Legions
6-Distant Skies
7-Forever Free
8-Before The Winter
9-Twilight Symphony
10-It’s A Mystery
11-Phoenix
12-Millenium
13-Tomorrow
14-Night Time Eclipse
15-Forever

That might include me. When I'm in the right mood (quite rarely, I must admit), I quite like Full Moon. Other times, though, I share your views :P

Perhaps the demo-version with totally different lyrics?
