Music on this album is like a new lily: something has beed cut off, but it all gained new quality, glitter and shape.
So where does the power come from to see the race to its end?

In the second chart week Stratovarius is in chart #7. So 3 charts to down. Well, it's still OK result. IMO.

I voted with a 4. I thing, that this new Stratovarius rocks hard, and is a must. The sound is easier to accept for the ears, than the older sutff, but it's still Stratovarius, and you can find some songs, that are definitely going to be classic songs of Stratovarius. Imho, they are United, Gypsy in Me and Fight. Maybe Back to Madness too.

Why I didn't vote with a 5 is, that it can't be forseen, if this album is going to be a bit sell or not, and imho, as it's not the real classical Stratovarius sound, except for some moments, it's not going to be a classic. (the classics are Episode, Visions and Destiny)

the only thing i don't like on this album is "Götterdämmerung"
So much rumors about that song, and now.. :?
They could have done so much more with that song..
the original version, that is used on the Zenith-Of-Power-fan video, sounds more mysterious yet..

but well, i was a bit dissapointed with the "Elements"-song, so perhaps i just don't like long strato songs in general.. :?

Well, Strato has lots of long epic songs and if you don´t like two of them, you might not say that you perhaps don´t like long Strato-songs.

And mostly, as Destiny is their best song ever... and well, best song in the music scene.

I thought the album was a breath of Fresh Air. Very similar to Iron Maiden's X-Factor album, which I also love.

Some of the songs on Stratovarius aren't as strong as they could've been, but others are truly excellent, like Fight and Back To Madness. All in all, considering what the band has been through in the past year, it's impressive that they managed to put an album out at all... Yeah, it could've done with at least one fast song, because speed is one of Stratovarius' main identities, but still, all in all a solid album.

I'm sure that the next album will be much better though, maybe even Lauri will write some material and have 4 creative forces in the band!

The new album

Post by Chronos » Wed Sep 21, 2005 4:33 pm

This album is very strong. Very true.

They come to some sort of maturity in the composition and the lyrics. Kotipelto sings differently on this album and I think it's for the best. The feeling in his voice is closer to LIVE. It's warmer.

I like the subjects of the songs though I find United a little bit cheezy. It reminds me too much of United from Judas Priest.

At least they manage to do an album that has not the same structure as Visions, Destiny and the Elements.

Everything is well put into place. Nothing wrong. 5 stars.
Hold on to your dreams!

So now I've at last heard whole new album. Now I don't know should I rate "very good" or "ok... but something is missing".

I think just the same. To me the new album is so good as the others. Of course, it's totally diferent, but that's good, that we can see an evolution in every Stratovarius album. I like that, I like the change. In this case, change was for good.
And I'm a big Stratovarius fan too!
I voted the five , It's awesome!:D

new album is awesome!!!! very good, genius!!!! But I'm fascinated about every album :D

That's the reason why I don't care about the future - Strato can't disappoint me!

New songs are very good but I like the doublebass-headbanger-tracks too. Different style but still the typical Strato-trademarks.

Just got the new album yesterday. I was very surprised about how hard it sounds. It's cool! In my opinion, the last two albums (at least!) went too much into a "soft" and sometimes even chintzy direction. I don't like songs like "Drop in the Ocean" or "Fantasia" or so. :?

On the new album is no song I have to skip. That's a great step back to the old days (and I hope thay'll continue like that!)

Black diamond was the first song i heard from strato...

a song of that kind is missing on the new album.
on every album there was at least one "doublebase-power-hymn"...

You're right! It is difficult to set new benchmarks with such songs but it is still possible! Now they have released no power-speed songs... wait to the concert, strato will play more than one or two of them

i´m really looking forward to the concert, cause i know, that they always have a really good mix from all albums and they exactly know, what the fans want to hear.

in my opinion strato is one of the best live bands. you always get to hear some surprises, for example the little interludes or the solos are different every time (black diamond...)

I enjoy the new album. All in all, it is different, but has good material. The production sounds great of course. What I'd want to hear on the new album? More soloing I guess. SHRED!

i´m not really a strato-fan anymore, because my taste changed, now i like darker music, strato is way too positive, but yesterday i had the chance to listen into this album a bit and i didn´t like it at all. the beginning of maniac dance is horrible.

"Very Good" rating

Post by vikingbynature » Tue May 30, 2006 1:31 am

This album is great. Certainly different but great! Thank God it's not a repeat of Tolkki's "Hymn To Life" in style!
