Opeartion : Mindcrime is indeed one of the greatsest albums ever. The Operation : Livecrime DVD kicks ass too.
You're talking to someone whose Queensryche collection is 9 pages long. You don't need to tell me anything about which DVDs kick ass.
BLIND GUARDIAN if you like strato, you will LOVE BG.
Um, that's not necessarily true. I LOVE Strato, and cannot stand Blind Guardian.

Angra are also amazing.

Im not a huge powermetal fan, but those 2 bands i love, along with Strato of course heh.
I love Strato, but I don't like Blind Guardian at all. :D I honestly don't see the similarities. I like clean vocals, which is why I don't like Hansi Kursch's voice. I don't really like German metal in general because it is more straight forward and it is less "emotional" than, let's say, Finnish, Swedish or Italian metal. But again, this is just my opinion. I really tried listening to Helloween, Blind Guardian and Gamma Ray, but I just don't get the same feeling as when I listen to Strato or other bands.

Blind Guardian is probably my number 1 band, followed closely by Stratovarius and Iron Maiden. However, I see your point. There's no connection whatsoever to Stratovarius :D The drumming is totally different, there are two guitars, there are more backing vocals, and the lead vocals (Hansi Kürsch = GOD, mind you. My favorite vocalist :D ) are totally different from any power metal band. I actually consider Blind Guardian to be more.. Speed/Epic metal, than power metal.

I think Blind Guardian has a lot of feeling. Just completely different from Stratovarius, that's all. :)

Sure...with CD singles, DVDs, magazine articles, bootlegs, and countless other stuff, it adds up over time. I've been collecting Queensryche stuff for nearly 15 years.

I absolutely love Stratovarius, mind you, I'm skipping school for a few days and seeing them live in Chicago when they come to the States :D But anyways, Stratovarius and Blind Guardian really have no connections... at all. Guitar solos in Stratovarius vs. little to none in BG. Plus, Hansi is just not as dynamic of a singer as Koti, I mean I watched the BG DVD with my friend, and he just stood in front of the state, in front of the mic!

Gimme a break!

It's your opinion, as you are entitled to one. Mine? I love Hansi Kürsch's voice. Yes, his presence isn't nearly as good as Kotipelto's, that's for sure. But you can't compare the vocals. Kotipelto's vocals define power metal vocals, whereas Hansi's are totally different from anything else ever done before or after.

As for solos, again, opinions. I love André Olbrich's solos, and even though he isn't a very known guitarist, he's one of my top ten. :)

-Angra
-Iced Earth

and of course our favourite power(metal)rangers Hammerfall!

The only new melodic metal band which sounded interesting to me was the brazilian Aquaria, have you heard it? I'll try to find the link to download a little piece of some song and then I post here.

If you happen to like some of the previously mentioned bands, try also Avantasia - The Metal Opera (Parts 1 & 2) : symphonic power metal whose singers belong to Edguy, Shaman, Strato (Tolkki)...

You forgot the band Zeldar, although they sing in Spanish :)

Official (but not better than the other two sites): http://zeldarweb.com.ar/

http://www.lamisticadezeldar.com.ar/

http://www.mundozeldar.com.ar/ (from this one you can get two high quality videos of about 120 mb each).

Great Groups!

Post by fernando_levy » Sun Aug 07, 2005 4:17 pm

Hi grim2006! I'm afraid the same thing might happen to me, so I've been widening my music knowledge recently and have come across some nice groups. Sonata Arctica is amazing, I particularly like fast songs like "Wolf & Raven" or "Black Sheep". There's another group called Kamelot. I don't know exactly how to define it, it's like power/progressive/ metal. I love the songs called "Center of the Universe", "Lost and Damned", and "Forever". Try those out, I think you won't be disappointed :)

PS: Great new topic for a discussion

Haha, it's so cute when some users come up with "new" discoveries like giants Sonata Arctica or Kamelot :D
Anyways, you guys might enjoy Angra.

I dont think you can get it in germany because they are just starting and its really hard for a argentinian band to sell cds in other countrys. you can only get it in argentina, brazil and maybe chile. You should download the album and buy it when you can get it.

Insania
http://www.insania.se/
This one is amazing! It's like Stratovarius and Rhapsody combined. And the songs are catchy as hell, at least on their newest album (the only one I have from them). A piece of excellent swedish power-metal.

Twilight Guardins

Great hardrock/metal from Finland!

Altaria
