Today friend of mine who is very close to Lauri Porra told me that Lauri played some new Stratovarius songs for him. 4 or so. He said that he was surprised how progressive they sounded, almost like Dream Theater. There was nothing close to the old Stratovarius style, which I think is a good thing. Lauri said that there are no fast double bass drumming songs at all and that the material is quite complicated.
Here is a part of a harvester's rr forum post.

I can easily confirm this as bullshit.

1. i have not played the songs to anybody yet.

2. If you listen to the pre-demos in the videos you can easily notice some pretty fuckin fast double bass drumming by the great Jörg Michael

3. As far as i see it there are no dream theater influences here as none of us are really into their style. of course it is matter of opinion. ( I always saw some Mozart in sex pistols ) In my opinion we are basically making power metal with some symphonic and some progressive elements added. I´m really into the stuff that we have done and can´t wait for you all to hear it.

now why would Harvester post something like this?
It seems like Matias is a big Petrucci fan.
And seriously, why is DT such a bad thing? I think there are some very certain elements of Dream Theater that could make the Stratovarius sound even better.

I completely disagree.
Stratovarius, or these guys, have their own style and Dream Theater have another different style.

Stratovarius = Stratovarius
DT = DT

I don't understand why they should have DT style in their songs :roll: :roll: :roll:

But they can take elements of each other's music,
Tolkki didn't write all of those songs without getting inspiration from other music.

Yes, but he created their own style. It is already established, they are not beginners who are looking for a style. Of course they can evolve in the same style, but I wouldn't like them to change it. You know, they have the Stratovarius style.

Fuck, the background music sounds awesome!!! The first thing I noticed was Jens' solo, BEAUTIFUL!! Another thing I'm very happy about is the background keyboards. Many people don't care that much about background keyboards being loud, but I love it when you can hear the "choir" keyboard sound loud and clear. It's a very "embracing" sound (yeah that sounds stupid... it's just hard to describe). In terms of their previous albums, Destiny had, in my opinion, the best background keyboards. Infinite was pretty good too (especially in Glory of the World) but after that, the keyboards took a step back. It's nice to see that Jens is making more noise again!! :)

So you just want the same stuff every album?

No, I'd like them to keep their music style, and variety. As I have already said evolution is ok because repeating and repeating the same over and over again can sometimes be a bit boring, but they already know what's their style and what's not. Destiny, Distant skies, visions, black diamond, eternity, we hold the key and many wonderful ballads...in my humble opinion these songs very much represent their style. Stratovarius last album, Stratovarius was not their style at all. It's just that feeling you get when you listen to their guitar or keyboard melodies and you immediately know: that is Strato style

It's simple for me: I like Stratovarius, I don't like Dream Theater.

So, I don't want DT on Stratovarius.

if they do some songs like this they cant go wrong.
bands dont really have styles as much as individual songs have pieces of influences.

I'd just like to add (and this is something I always forget to write about when I post in this thread) that although we generally associate this new album to the beginning of the "Matias era", but in fact, although Lauri Porra is not a stranger at all to us, this is going to be his first Stratovarius work as well. In other words, 40% of the Stratovarius line-up has changed in comparison to the black album, so there's a lot going on. Let's see what influences LP will bring as well.
