Ok, I REALLY want the Return to Dreamspace album.
Most of the sources I've seen point to 1942 and I haven't heard him deny that, also considering the amount of bands he's been in since the late 50's that's the age I'd say he is.
Hell I wouldn't care if he was 150 as long as he still sounded really good.
I think the whole point is that we all have singers we like more then others, Hansi is your favorite and others here including myself consider Dio to be among the best.
However if you must know my personal favorite it's actually Bruce Dickinson, he's the singer who inspired me to start singing.
Kotipelto and Dio are actually number two for me.

I just didn't have a spot to really say this, but I kinda agree with you both. If I had to pick five superb songs, they would be Destiny, Visions, And Then There Was Silence, Keeper of the Seven Keys (Helloween) and The Seven Angels (Avantasia).Tthe last one on the list is the 5th best in my opinion, just cannot rate those four first ones anyhow I try.Rebel wrote:I also am quite a fan of his Imaginations vocals, but "And Then there was Silence" Is possibly the best power metal song ever written.

No way. Patrik is way more versatile Dio ever was, and that's something. Johansson's got some five singing "styles", I just don't know what is wrong with that guy's voice - he can freaking sing everything it seems!Ragehead91 wrote:I like Nils Patrik Johansson as much as the next gut, but he is really just a modern-day version of Dio. In fact someone who reviewed Far from the Madding Crowd asked the mastermind, multi-instrumentalist, main composer of the band, Erik Ravn, why there aren't any mentions of that second wonderful singer on the record. Erik answered that there isn't because it's the same guy singing all the vocals.Strangely he doesn't use his full ability on Astral Doors or Lion's Share as far as I know anyway, although although he sings in both bands as well. Maybe Ravn just has that musical sence of using him the composers on those bands can only dream of.

Also, yeah, Bruce Dickinson is one of those few holding up on his own with these guys - awesome singer. I never was that such a fan of Coverdale though. I know many people, Jorn Lande and stuff, have kind of stolen his expression, but he wasn't "one of the best" in the first place IMO. I even liked Glenn Hughes more in DP, more attitude (drugs?

Oh come on! Listen to his voice! You can't deny that Nils Patrik is HEAVILY Influenced by Dio! And I'm not saying that this is a bad thing! People still need to get their hands on that, excuse my understation as I try to stuff them in a box, folk/power stuff of theirs - it's greatest metal I've heard in years, seriously! Why aren't these guys even near the league of, say, Kamelot; their style is as original and music as good, at minimum! I'd rank them all the way up with, I don't know, Gamma Ray, except they're way more versatile and folky. Might be in my top 5 metal bands nowadays, just with those two albums alone I've heard from them!

I've listened to him in Astral Doors, Lion's Share, Space Odyssey and Wuthering Heights. In all of those bands he sounds like a modern day version of Dio. A very angry and ballsy modern day version of Dio. And again, there is nothing wrong with it.Intiaani wrote:Nope, I don't deny that. Re: Ok, I REALLY want the Return to Dreamspace album.
Keeper of the Seven Keys, to me, is a very unnappealing epic, when you compare it to Halloween, King for 1000 years, and Occasion Avenue.Intiaani wrote:Mormegil wrote:A Night At The Opera has my favourite song of all time, And Then There Was Silence, - -I just didn't have a spot to really say this, but I kinda agree with you both. My preference between the latter two is purely a mood decision, but only on very rare occasions do I hold them in such high regard as I do THE DARK RIDE.
My top 5 would be
1. And then there was Silence
2. The Dark Ride
3. Infinity
4. The Power of One
5. Anthem of the World

The Dark Ride, The Power of One and Anthem of the World are extremely close to it for me, too. Not that Infinity was bad or anything.Rebel wrote:

The Dark Ride fucking ROCKS! I never understood why it got such bad reviews. A killer album.
Re: Ok, I REALLY want the Return to Dreamspace album.
The album as a whole is pretty much awesome, but the title track is pure unregulated awesome.
"All aboard, step right this way, the dark ride is leaving soon, just sign, on the dotted line, all I want, is your soul, tighten your seat belt, and let's GO".
The Dark Ride, is, oddly enough, the song that inspired me to learn a really low non-growling vocal style (Ala the "I'm the Engine, Of your deadly sins" part, I'm pretty sure that's a vocalizer of some sort, but I learned how to make my voice do that)
Everything about that song is so awesome though, I want a reunited Dark Ride Helloween lineup.

I really thought though that Keeper of the Seven Keys Pt. III was a masterstroke. It didn't sound anything like Pts. I or II, but it still fit with them.
The newest album though, didn't keep my interest after the first few songs.

I agree on Gerstner. He gets WAY more shit than he deserves. But I disagree with Löble. I think he is a good drummer and a perfect fit for the band. But sadly he lacks the writting skills that Uli Kusch had. Keeper III was great but I thought Gambling witht he Devil was even better. My Favourite since The Dark Ride.Rebel wrote:Gerstner ain't half bad, I haven't been impressed by Loble though.Ragehead91 wrote:Maybe they could get Kusch but I doubt that they can get Grapow.Rebel wrote:The album as a whole is pretty much awesome, but the title track is pure unregulated awesome.

One thing I could never tell was if Helloween uses two guitars kind of interchangably, or is there a deefiend rhythm guitar player, and a defined lead player, and where does Weiki usually stand?

Anyway, here is some microtrivia for your reading pleasure:
1) What's the A-Family theme song?
"How Long" by Andre Matos! A priapus favorite.

2) What is the A-Family's favorite computer program?
Microsoft Powerpoint! :laff: :laff:
That's it for now. Tune in next week!

Usually Weikie's the rhytm guitarist, although of course both often play solos separately and sometimes the same solo at the same time. Usually all three of these are in the same song even. I also think, if you're in the audience, you mostly see Weikie as the rightmost musician. If that's what you even mean by "stand".

No butter, no sauce
The chef is left to blame
I'm at a loss
This food is quite lame..
I must learn to free my mind
Now the spatula I must find
Once more
Once more!
If I could Fry
That big bird in the sky
Stick a fork, hear it squall
And serve it in the mall
If I could fry
Hear that big fat bird cry
Serve it on a platter
Make my guests much fatter
So here I am
In solitude I stand
I've got food inside
I need to realize
My belly has grown
No fear of the leftovers
No more
No more!!
If I could Fry
That big bird in the sky
Stick a fork, hear it squall
And serve it in the mall
If I could fry
Hear that big fat bird cry
Serve it on a platter

I bet on the 29th, or 30th a notice will be posted that the album is delayed for an indefinite period.

Kinda like the Sao Paulo DVD.
