"Darkest Hours" single teaser!

Listen to a preview from Stratovarius new EP "Darkest Hours", featuring 2 songs from the new album "Elysium" out on January 12th 2011. The EP also features a demo version of the title track and 2 live songs that will only be available on the mini album, recorded during the Polaris World Tour. The EP will be available on CD, digital download and very limited 12" vinyl edition.

I think edel were gonna try to have the "unofficial" ones removed, don't know how successful they will be but that's their call if that's how they feel! It's their master ...

Wow. Matias is really taking control here. Kinda sad really, because I loved Lauri and Jens' writing, but if it works, it works. If Matias' compositions are more on par with "Infernal Maze" and not "Somehow Precious" this will be an absolute masterpiece.

Jens, if you had to "categorize" the album in a style, what would you say?
Power metal or Progressive power metal?
EDIT: Another one:
Elysium song is splitted in different tracks or all in one track?

P.S: To Kosmo, where can I find that "leaked" song
I meant Darkest Hours, it was in Youtube in all it's glory today but was forced to be taken down.
Leaked was poor wording though.

My first reaction as well
Somehow I expected a bigger share of Lauri in the new album. But judging from the samples, Matias did a great job, so... who cares who wrote the songs, as long as they're as good as the samples

And that's the final tracklisting? I like the titles more on this one, and that 18 minute title track has me drooling in anticipation. Can't wait! Looks like Matias is contributing quite a bit, I'm really looking forward to this.

Well Polaris had 5 Lauri songs and just 2 Matias song with one of them being a bonus track so the tables have turned.
Well one thing Timo said in an interview (if I remember correctly) that he may consider a new solo album now that he had only one song on Elysium.
That would be great but the fact that last year he said that he had enough possiblities to bring his compositions in Stratovarius and the next year he is going back to his solo projects is a sign of Matias really stepping in the shoes of Tolkki.
Well it should be a killer album but Jens Lauri and Timo: Don't let Matias do all the songwriting since your songs on Polaris were amazing as well!

The problem is: Label doesn't want to release a double and so the extra songs will be heading to the dump unused.
But hey I just noticed that Timo wrote a huge pile of lyrics! I hope they will be some of his better ones. He has always had good lyrics and bad lyrics.
As an example of the bad lyrics we have several songs on his latest solo album...

Matias shouldn't step into TT's shoes, worst thing that could possibly happen. It's a lot better when many people write songs on an album.

Well, this can get very contradictory if we analize the situation: But in my humble opinion I think letting Matias write more songs in this album is a sign that he's getting along very well with the band, and I think it's brilliant to give the new member an opportunity to show the fans his musical songwritting and style.

To assume that Matias is trying to step into Tolkki's shoes just because he's contributing more songs to this album than the other guys is an absurd accusation. Matias is an extraordinarily talented musician and just based on how he acts and my experience when I met him, he's an extremely laid back guy. Let him do whatever he wants.
