Stratovarius Community

This case is already worn out pretty much but I still decided to create this thread in order to find out how people feel.

In my opinion, Tolkki is definately better singer for Stratovarius. He has a voice nobody else has and reason I like it is its mysteriousness and deepness. In some songs he can bring even some melancholism to power metal. Tolkki can do what almost every other power metal-singer fails at: bring something new to power metal-vocals. It's not just all about Kiske high-shouts. He can add something more to it. Sing from his own feelings passionately. I think he is the best clean vocal-singer in world.

Kotipelto fails to bring emotion to his singing. He doesn't sing about his own thoughts, he sings about someone else's. His vocals hardly bring anything new to the power metal-genre, it's very much alike Kiske.

Stratovarius' three first albums are easily better than the rest. My personal favorite album is Twilight Time. Even though it's very hard, I'd say my favourite song is The hands of time. Most of the songs in those three albums carve very deep to listener's mind, making you think about various things. All songs sang by Kotipelto can never impress with their atmosphere like songs sang by Tolkki.

Oh God, they can't even be compared, TK is that much better.

Also, comparing him to Kiske is kind of an insult too imho.

They were great singers, but at the same time it's like listening to 2 different bands. With this being said, I prefer the post-Tolkki era; my vote goes to TK

I won't vote.

The two have found their respective abilities.TK started with drums but found out he has a marvelous voice. Tolkki's voice is different in a sort of bad point of view than a typical high-voice Power Metal singer, but his guitar style stood out from all of the other guitar players of said genre.

This poll doesn't make sense today, in my opinion. It's like comparing apples to oranges.

Tolkki is a great composer but Kotipelto is the best singer for Stratovarius!

This is the toughest question since Bruce Dickinson vs. Paul Di'Anno.

Tolkki sounds great on Dreamspace, but overall TK is the voice of the band.

I vote Geddy Lee.

Well, I like VERY much Tolkki's voice and how it works with the songs he sanged. I also think he could have singed some songs on Episode and maybe some from Visions. But they would have been as good as Kotipelto's versions. And there's no way Tokki's voice would fit songs like Learning to Fly or Find your Own Voice. Tolkki's voice is more like a heavy metal voice, and I like it very much, but for Strato, Kotipelto is the best.

Yeah I guess the difference between you guys' music tastes and mine is the fact I like more like dark side of metal. I do like some power metal but most of the bands I like are melodic death metal or symphonic black metal. As an example, Norther is melodic death metal but it is very strongly infuenced by power metal (loads of double bass, keyboard solos and such). How Norther beats Kotipelto Strato is the fact vocals don't ruin the music itself imo. Petri brings awesome dark atmosphere that isn't too much of cliche still. I just somehow dislike the all-out power metal that is very often about something positive element of life. As an example, Strato's probably the most famous song, Black Diamond, I definately like some of it musically. But with vocals, I somehow start to digust it since it's about love. How I think Strato changed musically is very crucial as well. Tolkki didn't play that big part with his guitar, keyboards and drums took over more. Thats not like that in all songs but in old songs, most melodies came from his guitar and that is what liked to hear.

Anyways we all have our taste of music, don't we?

TK is THE voice of Stratovarius but Tolkki does have a great singing voice. Its undeniable.

Tolkki has an unique and a great voice.
Kotipelto has the Stratovarius voice.

I voted Kotipelto although at times i would have liked to see what kind of music Strato would have made after dreamspace with Tolkki on the vocals.

I think its pity now that TT is kicked from Strato he doesn't want sing. I could understand somehow while he was in Strato because that would have created nasty competition between him and TK if he would have sang in RR for example. I think now when he is no longer in Stratovarius he should create some solo stuff where he is singing tbh.

ps. TK has Stratovarius voice in those people's minds who think he is better Strato singer and TT has the Stratovarius voice in those people's minds who think he was better Strato singer. Simple .
