Classic live rock performance on DVD/BD?

I want to make use of my home entertainment system with live concerts, in the following priority:

1. Great performance.

2. Great audio/visuals.

I.e., give me some tips on rock performances caught on video through history that I shouldn't be without, and it's a bonus if it sounds/looks good :-)

(hint: I am one of those that think that Thin Lizzy's "Live and dangerous" is the best live album around, so if you have something in the veins of that it'll probably be ranked high...)

Well, Made in Japan is easily the best live album in history, but its audio only. If you're looking for a video performance, finding the video bootleg that this performance comes from is a good start

Nightwish's End of an Era is an awesome live concert.

End of an Era is awesome visual, awesome sound but Tarja sings pretty horrible all through the concert.

One of the best live-dvd's i know is ofc Iron Maiden - Rock in Rio where both sound and videorecording is totally amazing.

Evergrey have a live dvd thats is really cool aswell, A night to remember, with really good sound and atmosphere. The visual recording is very well done on top of that. Although it kindof requires you to actually like the band.

In Flames - Used and abused...in Live we trust have 2 very different concerts, one from hammersmith odeon with the whole "big stage-production" and one from a small club in gothenburg where they play a very intense and intimate show. Another of my favourites.

Then of course, Queen - live at wembley stadium in 86. Not amazing picture since it's rather old but it's something every person interested in musicdvd's should own.

my 5 cents

There was a ridiculously over the top one that Within Temptation did a few years back. Might be worth looking into.

Firewind - Live Premonition is also good and both Iron Maiden's Rock in Rio and Death on the Road are great, albeit different, performances.

Dream Theater have put out some good DVDs as well.

There's an awesome Deep Purple performance from 1970... if you could find the DVD that this came from (if such a thing exists) I'd hit it:

<object width="640" height="390"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/1slq_FwRN8o?fs ... ram><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/1slq_FwRN8o?fs=1&amp;hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="640" height="390"></embed></object>

Also some of Hendrix' live shows would be incredible to watch on that sort of setup.
