Just for curiosity: Do you know any song of other bands which brings to your mind some Stratosong, even in a short part? No need to be identical, only similar or with the same idea on vocals, riffs, melodies, keyboards or drums.

I found it:

* On Holy Knight ( Freedom Call), in the chorus, the guitar riffs and drums are very similar to Fright Night, they just change the harmony. Check it.

* Well, I guess this one you know: Kind Hearted Light, by Masterplan, which has a keyboard intro almost (almost?) riped off from Hunting High and Low... =P

Do you know any other? :)

you mean Helloween Plagiarism? :D

All those melodic metal bands sound very influenced by Helloween in general, plus stuff like maiden and Malmsteen. =P

But on the other hand, the chorus of Helloween's Salvation is quite similar to Father Time. =P

I have a big one here:

At Vance - Only Human

vs

Stratovarius - Playing with Fire

Stratovarius was written first, but they sound a LOT alike.

Black Diamond's Intro sounds like Intro to MegaDeth's Killing is my Business album
"Your life is yours, and yours alone. Rise up and live it!"

Bob: I don't believe in God.
Archangel Michael: That's OK, Bob, because He doesn't believe in you, either!~Legion~

OK, a few new things.

At the end of "Abyss" (Dreamspace, track 12), like JUST as the song is ending in the last few seconds, the beat changes and sounds a lot like the drumbeat in the song "Elements."

But that's not really plagarism, since it's all STratovarius anyway.

Also, some live Sonata Arctica stuff has Strato riffs in them...
Ok, you know how in the recording of "False News Travels Fast" (Silence), Kotipelto does the last highpart, screaming "false news travels FAAAAAAAAAAAST!" ? Ok, well he does. Well, live, on "Songs of Silence," Sonata Arctica isn't gonna bring Kotipelto onstage for three notes-- they play the riff from "Speed of Light." I guess it's a joke for those who know the connection to Stratovarius in that last part.
Did that make sense?

I think they do it in a few other places, but I can't remember.

People often mention the main riff in Anthem of the World being similar with the fast middle section riff in Night Time Eclipse... They're not. =P

I can see where you are getting that from, but the feel of the two songs - one seemingly disgusted, and the other, hopeful, just is too much of a contrast for me to make a solid relationship.

So even though the two riffs rhythmically sound pretty much the same, they are on different parts of the scale, thus making them different.

Well that's not how I would put it.
My idea:

Intro
Verse 1
Chorus
Verse 2
Chorus
Solo
Chorus
Mini Solo
Chorus
Chorus
Outro

-----------------------------
Rarely does the verse 1 and verse 2 not have chorus inbetween.

99% of the Stratosongs have riffs with pedal notes - and the most of them are in Eb minor. Not only this songs.

And I can be wrong, but the structure I have noticed is a bit different of what you're writing. For example:

Black Diamond, Speed of Light, Against the Wind:
Intro
Intro with drums and guitars
Verse 1
Verse 1 again
Bridge
Chorus
Solo (s)
Chorus
Chorus
End.

Forever Free, Millennium, Will the Sun Rise, Tomorrow, Phoenix, Father Time, No Turning Back, .........:

Intro
Verse1
Bridge
Chorus
Intro
Verse2
Bridge
Chorus
Solo
Chorus
Chorus
End

With little insignificant differences, but all the same. Do you agree?

Nothing wrong with smiling. But a big smiley after a question could mean you do know it and are just being ironic.

Anyway, both riffs are in E minor and both have pedal notes (notes being repeated to form a "base" ) under the melody line... The fast one in Night Time Eclipse starts with the melody on B (the dominant) , whereas the melody in Anthem of the World starts on G (the minor third) ... When the first melody bit has been repeated in both riffs, the NTE riff moves down on the scale to F# with C as the pedal note. At this point, AotW riff also has C as the pedal note, but here the melody keeps starting on G.

So even though the two riffs rhythmically sound pretty much the same, they are on different parts of the scale, thus making them different.
Heheh, thanks for the explanation, dude... and sorry for anything... I was kinda (completely) high yesterday.

I didn't need to know that you were a drug addict.

Thanks for the info,Stratoheart. But I think that the songs I like, and the real classics, at least, don't really have a formula that fits in with many other songs.

No shit, Sherlock =P Everybody knows Strato tune down ½ step, so technically they still play in E minor. E flat minor is just nitpicking. And you're wrong, most of their songs are NOT in Eb minor. And I can mention many songs without the (baroque) pedal riff: Forever, SOS, I Walk to My own Song, Uncertainty... The list goes on, and there goes your 99 % =P

Nitpicking... Well, if they tune down 1/2 step, the sound is E flat. How are they still playing on the same tune? Technically? Technically, if you close your ears and just look to the guitar or bass. Iit's not the sound which is coming out. So, the tune of the song is not E minor, but E flat minor. Because we are talking about the songs - aren't we? If they tune down the strings to B, will they still be playing in E? What a bullshit.
Anyway, maybe you don't like we disagree with your posts. Ok. Put the 99 down to 90, because I could be writing here for an entire day which songs have pedal note riffs. And you can count (if you know the songs, of course) if the most of them are in E flat minor or not.

Bullshit? Oh no, buddy. Technically, a standard tuned guitar has E as the lowest note. When you see Jens playing Black Diamond live, does he play it in C# minor? No, he's tuned down like everybody else and is chugging along in D minor. The actual pitch is C# minor, but they are playing their instruments as if the song's in D minor. That's what I mean with "technically"... Ever seen a tab book of Malmsteen? They don't bother writing everything out in E flat minor, they just ask you to kindly tune down :)

Unless you have perfect pitch, how the hell can you hear the difference between E and E flat anyway?
