Pronouciations :P

As if my life wouldn't get any more boring (oh well, at least I got most of my Internet bandwidth limit back).

Simple question: How do you pronounce "Stratovarius"? :P I know this sounds like a stupid question, but some of my friends kind of want to know because I've been arguing with them.

Personally, I pronounce it "Strat-toe-various."

"various" as in the word "various."

But on Visions of Europe, the crowd pronounces "Strat-toe-VAR-ius."

Exactly what is the nature of the argument?

As they say the name is a combination of "Stratocaster" and "Stradivarius", i always pronounced it accordingly. I seem to naturally put a slight accent on the first syllable of "varius". I imagine this is how most north americans pronounce it.

It would be cool if we could get a few people from each region of the world to give their own renditions.

Personally, i'm still struggling with "Jens Johansson". :D

The pronounciation: Stratovarius [str^tov^rius]
But if I'm speaking in Hungarian: Sztratováriusz [stratov^rius]
The articulation: Stra-to-varius

Well, it depends where you're from. I mean, if you're Finnish for instance, you'd place the emphasis upon the first syllable, so you'd have

STRRRRAT -o - VA - rius

Hmm... I guess everyone says it differently!

That I say it one way (Strato-VAR-ius), and my friends say it's the other (Strato-various), and they think they're always right. :? Ah, who am I kidding, we're American, and we're as dumb as we can be!!! :P

if you want to speak in portuguese:
strA tO va ri Us

But i guess the correct English one is this:
stra tô va ri ôus
(i´m not sure if the "^" will give the same impression as it is given here! :P)

I use the Finnish way which iron_thunder pretty well described a few posts back. The emphasis is on the first and third syllables:

STRAT-o-VAAR-ius :headbang: *Moshing is 100% voluntary, although people are encouraged to at least try.*

ps. The letter "R" in finnish is not (at least not usually) pronounced like in the U.S, for instance,
It's very different, but unfortunately I don't have the correct words to explain it properly, sorry for that.

And yea, there is a difference pronnoucning V and W...

Listen to it.
At first I try to pronounce it in an English way, but with a Hungarian accent. Then I say it in Hungarian, as if it was written: sztratovariusz. We pronounce s like shit, and we pronounce sz like stratovarius.

And now I realize how difficult it is to explain... Jens Johansson, I would say the first J like Yeah, so it would be Yens. Last name is much more difficult to explain, but same kind oh J/Y to the start... Thats all I can say...
But on Visions of Europe, the crowd pronounces "Strat-toe-VAR-ius."
I think that this is the way you should say it (IMO). Actually on Visions of Europe you can hear all the names pronounced (almost) as they would be in Finland.

Edit: Damn.. It seems like I dont know how to use this quote things...

The correct pronunciation is Strato-VAAR-ius

But I pronounce it Strato-various because I don't care.

I pronounce it "Kab-ba-la" :D
*kidding*
well it depends on my mood. I can prononce like french (stra'-to'-va'rius), like pp from my town (stra-to-vaa-riuseu), like finnish (strrra-to-va-rrriouz), like german (chtra-to-va-rriouch) and when I'm drunk a mix of all of those.

Whoa, I thought the voice at the beginning of HH&L on Intermission said "strong warriors."

I just realized it said "Strat-o-war-ius."

Do the Finnish pronounce Vs with a W?
