Stratovarius Community

I notice today many my files have different name, they end with '.strato' like 'listadosfilmes.doc.strato' if i try open them its a box with "STRATO.EXE" amd a picture of mickey mouse says "OWNED!!"

then it says
Downloading is wrong
Challenge and then in a box A864752DB151D3F707CE326A58018D46
Response, and here is empty box
and then a button "OK"

i try to rename the file but the file is gone, is only random characters!!?? what the fucking hell????

What were you downloading that caused those files to appear?

If it was the Strat album....Don't get it off Kazaa or any P2p program

That does not seem like the work of Jens to me. He's not that malicious to damage your other files, he's probably just swap the mp3 for a pornographic picture or something.

Seems someone is using Strato for their noble crusade against mp3's, though. Has anyone noticed this for any other band mp3's?

Go to symantec.com and do a virus search immediately.

the files, buceta, are "hiding"...go to your explorer option and put "view all files" or something like that,,,this nerd virus just hide the real files as a system files and copy the name of the files with ".strato" in the end. Here is in portuguese>

explorer (pastas) - ferramentas - opções de pasta - mostrar pastas e arquivos ocultos....pronto vai aparece os arquivos.


fucking ridiculous virus...the kind of a fucking newbie would do.

I have it too. Its on thousands of my files. This really fucking sucks. I think its the band doing this. Its not "hidden files" the files have been changed or encrypted or something. there is only looks like full of garbage in the file. is for sure some virus that the band put there.

Would the band really do something this malicious just to punish people for downloading the album?
I think not. I hope not. They do not need this kind of rumor, even in speculation.

HAHAHA It semms very funny to me If someone did it to prevent from downloading mp3s, you guys just get what you deserve.

These MP3 -files in my opinion dont seem to have anything to do with renaming. HOWEVER, you might have used a bad P2P network such as kazaa and got a virus.

This virus might have then renamed files and, well, owned you.

This taught you a lesson: Dont use mainstream P2P software. They are crap.

I dont use Kazaa or other popular networks, therefore I never get viruses, I only get what I want.

Not that you should use P2P at all, thats very bad to begin with.

A good reason why this is NOT Stratovarius MP3 -only: Why would this virus infect MP3? There are a lot of legit MP3 files out there. I got tons of Stratovarius MP3's, but that really does not mean they are illicit.

Still, in Kazaa or other crappy sucky stupid P2P networks there might be fake files. It is ridicilously easy for record company or other agenda to insert these fake files in there. Kazaa has NO CONTROL over traffic. There are no rules, just random mayhem. No kazaa user can ever be sure they get what they want.

Luckily these agendas do not usually touch good P2P networks like *beep* and *beep*, because these agendas too include very, very stupid individuals.

And then, I have never heard of just fakes WITH virii in them. That has never happened. So this must be some individual who proceeds with malice of foretought. For some really strange reasons he likes to punish people for downloading material they might already own on CD's.

Sounds like a major league asshole to me.

I have an other nick here . I am a bit ashamed that i downloaded it so i made a new nick. Some of these files I really need back, maybe they are gone forever, or is there some code to get them back??? I get that same box with mickey mouse.

just remembered : there is a virus called "Stratovarius" or something like that.
I read something about it few years ago on a virus-report website.
I guess it has nothing to do with the band.

I checked F-Secure database and only thing "strato" query gave was some bagle.b variant that used www.strato.de as one of the URL's it connects to. Couldn't find anything else and I think F-Secure should know

jajajaajajaja itsno the band man and mp3 doesnt have anything to do it is just a stupid man who is bored. He puts .strato because he knows that there are lots of people who like strato and download strato stuff

...first of all, no one hacked into anyone elses computer. This was a virus.

Secondly, I'm pretty sure Jens wouldn't create a virus of that nature, hell, of ANY nature.

Whoever did this must be very clever indeed, maybe some fan did it, but who ever it is, I´m sure there would be absolutely no way to find him. I happen to think it´s FUCKING HILARIOUS!!! Whatever sicko though this up deserves a pat on the back.

It's not possible to really infect mp3 files but it's possible and happening that certain p2p clients are vulnerable and spread viruses with the files you download. I think you could get infected .avi files from Kazaa? Still think this one's a hoax though, too many symptoms of different known viruses together. We have "VBS/GWV", "Scrambler" and some random Mickey Mouse shit here. Haven't heard any news so far that such virus would be spreading anywhere else and I don't think anyone would bother just to piss off some european "who are they?" band's anxious fans. Except Jens, but if it really corrupts or destroys data (other than the file itself) it's not so easy to get over with as blowing up a toilet and I think Jens knows it well enough.
