I'm not a 'metal expert' but I would, call them...power...with speed metal.

Mmmm, I'd say Power Metal according with the following definition:

Power Metal:
Despite playing faster and more powerful than any other heavy metal, the music was still very melodic and less angered. Some of the musical elements are clean, high-pitched vocals, hymn-like choruses, parallel lead guitar-solos and double-bass drumming. Often keyboards were used as a background instrument in order to fabricate the hymnic anthems. The lyrics were often based on fantasy and/or sci-fi themes .... the keyboard advanced from being a background instrument to being a lead instrument; duelling with the guitar or performing leads on its own.

But, I think they are 50% Power + 30% Prog + 10% Neoclassic + 10% Other

i just refer to them as melodic metal. i know some say speed metal, they got elements of that, of course, but for me they´re not speed metal, because they have too many midspeed -songs and ballads

They aren't speed metal. At least their newer album stuff isn't.
From what I heard on previews/etc.
Etc. means nothing

I can say neoclassical power metal, I suppose.

Melodic Power Metal (for most albums. First three albums are like "heavy" and seems like this new album is hardcore/melodic...). And Elements pt.1 is progressive power metal...
So difficult :D

I would describe them as Melodic Power Metal as well. Before the had alot neo classical elements but lately its been less classical and more straight ahead melodic metal with power!!!!!!!!

in broad terms, neoclassical melodic, they have the speed to be a great speed metal band but they put more melody and feelings with the balads and mid tempo songs to be classified as speed metal

Stratovarius have copied much of HELLOWEEN! Helloween play pure clean POWER METAL, and so do STRATOVARIUS! There are no percentages like 30% prog ??!! haha.. they are 100% power metal! I hear shit like, Rhapsody play symphonic epi power hollywood metal! loooooool get real guys!

speed-power-melodic-progressive-symphonic metal :)

But mainly power-melodic metal. They have more keyboards in their music, than avarage power metal bands.

Indeed Strao's music is much more melodic that Helloween's. They were inspired by it for sure but it's a bis exaggerated to say they have "copied" it.

Except for a couple of songs in early strato, I don't see what can be called "progressive" in their music.

The instrumental and longer songs, like Holy Light, Stratosphere, Elements, Destiny, Visions... but it's true, that progressive metal doesn't dominate that much, as it does in Dream Theater for example. :)

Some Power Metal Progressive, also Speed Metal and some songs with Symphonic parts..It depends of the songs actually i think..

The next will be certainly more Heavy Metal..
