Eh...could someone explain this to me? XD
dunno if you guys have seen the movie "zorro 2" (aka The Legend of Zorro) or not. I watched it couple of days ago, and i was really suprised to see a scene like this...
it's a fireplace and Zorro is trying to hide himself in it. that scene only lasts one or two seconds and i couldn't belive my eyes. I was like "waaaaiiit - what's that?!"
but i finally managed to get a screenshot so my eyes didn't cheat me.
I know that lily sign is not only used by strato, but...Zorro???
I can understand if this house is in Quebec or somewhere nearby, just...i don't think Zorro has ever been to Canada.
so could any of you explain how could this ever happened? does that lily sign have some special meanings or common use as decoration? I haven't seen it somewhere else before. (don't tell me it's because one of you guys hided in their crew and made this on purpose )

I'm not sure, but many Canadian people could help you out Quebequois have it on their flag, or something.

The fleur-de-lys is a French sign of heraldry, royalty, something like that. Since, I think, the early explorers&first settlers of Canada came from France, I guess they brought their symbols with them.
I think it has been said Strato took to this symbol simply because they like it!
I've liked the pattern, too, all my life. Its very classy, I think.

I have seen Stratovarius kind of lilys in many movies especially in the middle-age movies like Timeline.
It is often used in the shields so maybe it's some kind of decoration or coat of arms...

As i recall the fleur-de-lys was used to mark the prostitues, i don't remember why...Joan Of Arc used it in her banner (is this correct cause i don't remember how to say estandarte in english) when she fought against England...
She took it to Orleans...in France...later...the sign came to America...New Orleans...
But that¡s as far as my culture goes...i haven't seen the movie so i have no idea why the fleur-de-lys is there....

Also my thanks for the link. It revealed me lots of good information about the symbol.browneyedgirl wrote: Thanks for that link, htcdude!
Hmm, Flower of Light, it sounds for me lots of "Tolkki". He certainly knows what´s the idea behind the choose of the lily, though it´s been said they just liked it.

I'm killing time here and reading that link I found an important brazilian author who wrote a play called fleur de lys... and I had no idea he also wrote plays!
I kept searching and I found this:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monteiro_Lobato
it has nothing to do with fleur de lys story (or with stratovaris at all) but it's about one of our most important writers who was born in my hometown and they made a nice description of it. Cool

Re: Eh...could someone explain this to me? XD
This is right. Anyway, the lily was not only the symbol of French royalty but of the Spain one. The Spain royalty is linked with the French one by a family called the Bourbon. Louis XIV was a Bourbon. So, that's why Spain used the same symbol. And when Spain invaded Mexico to "civilize" it, they took the symbol with them in order to show that this country belonged to Spanish King. And, finally, that's the reason why you can see the lily in this movie.browneyedgirl wrote:The fleur-de-lys is a French sign of heraldry, royalty, something like that. oh thanks a lot, to all of you!
have learnt lots of new things today~that's why i like the forum
btw i think i have seen this very same sign today...through the window of the bus. it is in front of a house or something. gonna double check next time.
and yes, that will be an awsome tattoo. ^_^
@nepi: i'm not a scout, as we don't have that in China. we do have some kind of commission for children and youth, but that relates to communism so i won't mention it! (Communist Youth League, how cool is that...)

talk of tattoos. Doesn't Tolkki have a red fleur de lis on his right arm toward the shoulder? I thought i saw this on Infinite Visions. Or did I imagine it?

about this symbol, does any of you familiar with photoshop? last time when i edited some pic in photoshop i realized that this symbol is actually in its toolbar(choose "custom shape" in the left and use th drop down menu on the top then you will see it). it's like an auto shape thing. dunno if that's in all versions of photoshop, but at leasts works in mine (7.0 and CS)
i found it very interesting and when i told my friend she was like "oh maybe that's why they used it. very easy to get and to do CD cover, image design, whatever..." lol
off topic: i just booked my flight at SAS and will be heading back to beijing in one month. and after another half month i'll be in HongKong. seems too long to wait...sigh...
anyway, i will try to take some pics at that time. just spent a day to code my online gallery thingie. now i have a place to upload my pics everywhere, so...let's wait and see.
maybe i should open a "HongKong tour" topic instead, i mean, later. i don't really have too much to say about it now. the only thing i can show you is some photos of my ticket

yeah, the hourglass as tattoo is really really cool. Generally I don't like tattoos, but that one would be a motive I could imagine for myself.
And the Lily has got a bunch of meanings. Did somebody already mention that in times of the witch hunt in some regions women who were believed to be witches were branded with that symbol?
