Epic songs

Post by Beast_Pete » Wed Apr 05, 2006 10:24 pm

Which of them do you prefer?

I'd like to ask everyone to keep in mind, that everybody has different tastes, so do not flame anybody because he/she likes Visions more than Elements, for example.

If you voted, please be so kind to share your opinion and why you voted the way you did.

Okay, I start:

I voted with Destiny. It has been my favourite StratoSong ever since I heard it. It was even the first song I heard from this band. I think, that it is a perfectly built up song, whit flawless parts. The lyrics ae very important for me, and the song gives the atmosphere that the title and the lyrics need. The speed changes throughout the song, and it makes it not to be boring. I have listened to this song more than 1700 times, and I can listen to it at any time. The only problem is, that if I start listening to it, I can't stop it. :)

My order is: Destiny, Visions, Elements and Infinity. Imho Visions is a really really variative song, which makes it also nonboring. Elements and Visions are more the repetitive kind of song. Why I like elements more than Infinity is that the solos are really awesome (Infinity's too, but Elements' > Infinity's), and the chorus part is really awesome, though as I mentioned before it is repetitive.

Voted for Visions, as i like the great melodies and the epic sound.
I looooove the first part of Destiny, but i dislike the slower part..
Infinity has a great first half (especially the "guns spreading message of peace"-part), but i don't like the rest of it.
Elements--again, i simply love the first parts, especially "kaleidoscope of colours", but at the end it gets a bit boring..

I voted for Elements.

Wtf? Only those options? Strato has got many more better epics (well, maybe not so long but still...)

Anyway:
Visions - AWESOME and I voted for it
Destiny - good
Infinite - good
Elements - horrible shit, in my opinion 2nd worst strato song

I knew, someone would say, that there are many other great epics from Stratovarius. I bet, Stratofanius would have voted for Night Time Eclipse, but this time I wanted the 4 title epic songs to competite.

Pools of sounds fill my mind
A universe of shapes
Kaleidoscope of colours

beautiful lyrics! Love everything about that masterpiece! Though every stratovarius song is

As someone might know reading from some my posts, Infinity is the most for my taste. Then goes Visions and after that the others. The too-long mostly boring slow Destiny is among the weakest epic Stratos but can say it isn´t the weakest at all.

I like Infinity specially in its entirety, the power & emotion they have in this song + the fine sounds with orchestral background makes it a real masterpiece in my opinion. (They never reached that status they have in Infinity, on every songs in both Elements, btw.) Furthermore, the meaningful lyrics are somewhat I really appreciate. They starts you thinking about our life on the Earth even if you don´t care your life here at all. And the solos, well, the key solo isn´t so special but I like the guitar solo very much. It just suits so good in that place where it is. The only lack in Infinity is, that in the end there´s used too much double-bass instead of interesting variations between many instruments.

A little about Visions, I just like the variations & huge emotion the song has. It´s also arranged in a great way. For me Visions represents a good epic song which has lots of stuff but still enough. :)

And when talking about the other epics outside of this poll, I´d mention here the awesome We hold the Key...

Even though Visions is my fav album, INFINITY is my fav Epic because it just sounds so grandiose&I love the symphonics&operatic style. The lyrics really hit home: Like, these things that go on in the world will go on forever, no matter what--infinity!

Infinity any day of the week, the drums got me hooked the first time I heard it, and the closing combo of chorus/guitar strumming/doublebass drums get me every time

Plus the solos are incredibly well orchestrated
Close your eyes and try to remember, destroyed lullabies of days gone by
Close your eyes on the edge of forever, a chance to dream fast asleep your nightmare ends

Visions
For sure;
Destiny, good song but not even close to Visions
Infinity, boring acoustic parts, some good riffs etc. otherwise not so good
Elements, A bit boring and I don't like chorus.

Yes, "We Hold the Key" is a great song, but I never thought of it as an Epic? But, I guess it is! :)

Elements, easily. The full orchestra and choir really make a difference. It's a very powerful piece of music, and has Jens' best keyboard solo in it. Excellent performances from everyone in the band. It's my favourite.

I also really love the other songs though!

Voted for Infinity... The song's lyrics are the most sensible from all strato-stuff.. I also enjoy Visions, but somehow it doesn't kick me as hard as it used to... But it's still one of the best songs in Visions of Europe...

My vote goes for Infinity.

Visions gives me perhaps the biggest "feeling" out of all the stratosongs, so my vote goes for it.

Just check out the first 43 seconds, then 4:21 -> 6:03 and especially Tolkki's beautiful slow solo that comes right after.
This stuff blew my mind the very first time I heard it about 6 years ago and still it makes me tingly. :headbang:

the first time i belong to the minority group...
okay, i voted for Destiny. the reason is almost the same as Pete's. that is the very first song i heard from strato, and i immediatly falled in love with this song (and the band too)
so every time i listen to it, the happy and warm feeling comes back to me.
i love other title-epic songs too.(i love almost all the epic songs  )
dunno which one is my (second) favorite...maybe Soul of a Vagabond?
if talking about lyrics only, then alpha&omega gets my vote.

But does it give you always great feelings and in different way... I mean not just feelings that "ah I remember now again the times when I found this band".

But this is enough for me. It´a totally useless to argue with you about Destiny coz we both know that you love the song and I consider it boring. :)
