HELP: which theme is Black Diamond?

Post by montoz » Sat Mar 03, 2007 12:53 am

Hi all,
I would like to know the name of the original theme by J S Bach which the song "Black Diamond" takes inspiration from.

Thanks a lot!

I don't think it's directly taken from any of Bach's works, however it's a pretty standard pedal note pattern that's common in music of the Baroque era. The use of the harpsichord sound while playing it reinforces this notion on the listener.

I suppose you could say it's kind of similar to a small section of Toccata and Fuge in D Minor by JS Bach, but that might be stretching it.

It's a simple, effective motif for the rest of the song to be built on, and it's easily recognisable and memorable which is why I think this song is as popular as it is.

Anyway, that's just my take on it. I could be talking complete rubbish!

I had no idea Black Diamond was based on Bach, I dont hear anythiing similar with Bach in that song. At least what I have heard about Bach.
Only the harpsichord I can relate...

That´s not to be Black Diamond being based on JS Bach...

Dunno if you thought about Black Diamond... but in Will the Sun Rise? you do can here a part taken from Bach's Violinkozert A-moll BWV 1041 - Allegro.

...and that "duett" by Tolkki and Jens really kicks ass, one of my very favourite parts! 8)

The only good part in that song, IMO.

Funny, I also don't like the rest of WTSR too much. Though it's said to be a classic. ;-) But yeah, that part kicks serious ass!
