Let's talk about Matias Kupiainen

The new guitar player for Stratovarius.
What do you expect from this guy? How do you think is gonna manage the old stuff and how do you think is gonna sound the new guitar on Stratovarius?
You know, I think it's an interesting topic cause we just have some samples from Matias on his myspace but we need to know more!
In my opinion, I think it's a really talented guitar player. I think is more "Michael Romeo oriented" than Tolkki. I mean, more "prog". But that's just an opinion based on the few things I have listen from Matias. And I'm not trying to say that his style is not his style, of course the guy have his own style but you know, since we don't have so much material, it's fun to think about it.
I think it's a very nice and humble guy. And that Jaffa doping is gonna kick ass!!

Well I already knew him from Fist In Fetus when I arrived here, and I can't imagine there'll be too many surprises for anyone who knows his solo and FiF work. I will be interested to see how involved Perttu ends up being though, and in which areas.
(Actually, awful as it sounds, I sort of just want the Strato stuff out of the way so he can start working on the full-length FiF album I was promised last summer

)

That Jaffa stuff is pretty addictive!!
Not only is he an incredible musician, but socially he has eased into this strange band of weirdoes with a lot of grace and humor.
I am really happy about the coming album, and I am already impatiently looking forward to making the next one after that. Hopefully we can start recording it already this year, but let's see. There will be quite a few gigs coming up (not nearly all of what we are planning is ready to be announced yet)
What do I expect? Good music and good times.

Honestly, right now, is difficult for me to be happier than I am. Damn, that's really fantastic, Stratovarius here again.
And at the other hand RR and Tolkki's music.
We won.
PS: And yes, do not stop. You must make a new album each year or just two years difference more or less. Because that's like a new beginning.

We always speak of Timo Tolkki and all the problems that have arisen since their separation. But in the middle there is this guitarist who has shown incredible facets. Personally I think it is a better guitarist than Tolkki, I don't know if it is the same composing songs. It will be different, but he has a huge future as a musician

I can't say that he is better since I've not heard enough music of him, but I agree with all the rest. If you post that in Strato Forum they will murder, decapitate and skullfuck you...

Let's just say Matias is great and that I can't wait to see him live and listen to him on the new album, right?

I indeed have a twisted mind, but my mind is not twisted as Tolkkis. I won't fake a stabbing and I won't let someone piss on my leg for publicity...

But you just gave him the idea of skullfucking (don't forget he might be somewhere here!).

Holy Shit! Someone has to warn the other RR members! He might well do that on stage to get publicity!!!!
Okay, back to topic. I don't want this thread to get moved to the flames section.

Sure.
I seriously think he is worth of interest and that he is really skilled, and moreover he seems to be a really nice guy. Now I want to see him on stage, and listen to the studio result (May!!!).

Yep, awesome! I'm sure he'll deserve to stay in Strato for a long time!

If you haven't already, you can download the solo stuff from Mikseri:
http://www.mikseri.net/artists/matiasku ... 101132.php
It's in Finnish but it's really not complicated.
The Tavastia 6.11.07 LIVE track includes a slightly different version of the Attitude Medley to the one on YouTube, but is over 15 minutes long and yep, The Attitude Medley's right at the end - bond with your fast forward.

In my opinion he is one of the most talented power metal quitarists in Europe. For me he can't replace Tolkki, but I'm sure that he will be great guitarist in the new Stratovarius.

The new guitar player is 25-year old Finnish guitar phantom Matias Kupiainen
in the techno boogie song there is a phantom like keyboard. some really awsome playing in those vidios and some style that i don't like as much. the neoclassical and power metal stuff is fucking brilliant. that part that starts at 1:28 of the 15 minute is so perfect, i hope the new record has lots of that.

That's great to hear that the band chemistry is going well. Albums are always welcome and i am looking forward to all the band creates together. You guys can create so much positive energy for people out there.

I was very sceptical when I first heard that Stratovarius' new guitarist would be some guy who is actually a month younger than I am... I definately wouldn't feel ready or able to play in a band of Stratovarius' status!
And thought 'uh oh...'
Until I saw the videos. 'Blown away' doesn't quite cover it. I love his style and versatility, and I'm really excited about the prospect of new material by new members and live shows.
Mataias has some pretty big shoes to fill but like Lauri, I don't think he'll have any problems taking the challenge on and adding his own style and flavour to the band.
tl,dr I can't wait to see and hear the new material and based on what I can see, Mataias will blow audiences away!

Why wait till May? The Album is ready, why not release it tomorrow?

It depends. I think these Albums mostly leak when they get sent to the press for reviews. A few albums leak months before they're released, a few albums just a few days before the release.

I downloaded the final mastered version of our album before we got the promo copies from the company. Go figure...

Did Stratovarius get a record deal yet?

I'm very interested about which label Stratovarius has chosen to sign with.
