Polaris writers, and online ordering

Post by JensJohansson » Tue Mar 31, 2009 1:06 pm

The promo copies of Polaris are out to the critics, and the response has been overwhelmingly positive. There is some additional information we would like to provide, because due to a mishap, the writer's credits did not make it onto the promo copies.

But fear not, here they are:

Stratovarius - Polaris

1. Deep Unknown: (Matias Kupiainen/TimoKotipelto)
2. Falling Star: (Lauri Porra/Lauri Porra)
3. King of Nothing: (Jens Johansson/Jens Johansson) 4. Blind: (Jens Johansson/Jens Johansson)
5. Winter Skies: (Jens Johansson/Jens Johansson)
6. Forever is Today: (Lauri Porra/Lauri Porra)
7. Higher We Go: (Timo Kotipelto, Matias Kupiainen/Timo Kotipelto)
7. Somehow Precious: (Timo Kotipelto, Matias Kupiainen/Timo Kotipelto)
9. Emancipation Suite part I: Dusk (Lauri Porra/Lauri Porra)
10. Emancipation Suite part II: Dawn (Lauri Porra/Lauri Porra)
11. When Mountains Fall: (Lauri Porra/Lauri Porra)

Japanese Bonus Track: Second Sight (Matias Kupiainen/Timo Kotipelto)

Without the bonus track the album is about 55 minutes long. "Second Sight" is 4 and a half minutes long, so the Japanese get about an hour of music (before you complain that the Japanese get more, remember that they have to pay almost 27 dollars for a CD even if they go straight into a store and buy it).

Also we have some links where you can order the album online:

Thanks for the writing credits. It was interesting to try and figure out who had a hand in each song based on the strengths and focuses of the various parts. Definitely some surprises there. I think the collaboration and mixing of talents has had a very positive impact on the dynamic sound of the album as a whole.

One thing: I had heard a demo with the song "Free Diving" and liked it very much. Though I didn't entirely remember it when I heard the album later, I was wondering if "Deep Unknown" was the same song renamed. I see in your list of credits you have the song "Free Diving" listed as the first song, so I am I correct in assuming it was actually renamed?

You should add recordshopX. 2,5 € delivery cost to Europe and USA. Usually I have the cds in 2-3 days here in Spain.

I buy a lot in play.com but it takes a week to arrive more or less.

In amazon I see 4 editions? What about the "special edition" having the same price as the normal one?

I thought we'd have:

-Normal edition
-Digipack edition
-Vinyl+cd edition

So we have one more?

It is the only place where I can find four editions.

Yes, "Free Diving" had the working title of "Deep Unknown." "Forever is Today" was also known as "Eternal Life" and I think, was it, "Tomorrow is Today", but now I don't quite remember. "Falling Star" had the working title "Adrenaline". I forget now exactly what was what. Mostly I myself called them "Demo 13", "Demo 8" and the like to avoid confusion.

My song "Winter Skies" was at some point known as "Ode to our dark lord Satan -- Devil, Prince of Darkness, Lord of Flies, Asmodeus, Mammon, Lucifer, Mephistopheles, Belial, Ishtar, Adversary, Dragon, Serpent, God of this World, Prince of the Power of the Air, Accuser of the Brethren, Enemy, Tempter, Wicked One, Fouler, Wolf, Destroyer, Father of Lies, Murderer, Sower of Discord, Abaddon, Proud One, Belphegor, Baal, Leviathan, Beelzebub -- hail Him for all eternity, heathen vikings let us die swords in hand, in battle, joining hands, entrails and genitals in homoerotic gay sword-fight splendor, and may we all burn together in hell!"

Actually, that last one I just made up.

Jens you said this: 'We will explain a little more about the concept and process of recording this album at a later time.'

Any idea when you are going to do this? It would be very interesting. :)

From what I've heard in Emancipation Lauri is an amazing composer. I have already said this but I am in love with that very little I listened of Emancipation.

From what I've heard, all composers do a great job on the album, but Lauri stands out the most.

So I'd watch out Jens. You might be taken over by Lauri.

I'd also like to know how much the whole album lasts, or every song. That'd be amazing, but I think we are asking too much, aren't we? :D

It seems Jens and Lauri like to write together and Timo and Matias like to write together, no compositions from Jorg?

Jens:is the american amazon putting polaris on pre-order?

The composition seem to be balanced by who wrote it. It's all mixed by members (which for me it's quite good) :D

but isn't that the same in Scandinavian? a new CD normally cost 149 or even 159 DKK. 1 Danish krone = 0.177847 U.S. dollars, which makes it exactly 27 dollars or more.
my colleague just said that if there is a grocery store in the hell the price will be marked in danish krone.

so Jens, make a special edition with all the bonus tracks for your dearest neighborhood!
