Having heard Deep Unknown only I can say that they wanted to please the fans, but did it with some soul.

As I was saying earlier I agree with Icecab, by writing music yourself you are already putting your soul into the music.

I mean maybe the music has a different soul to it then the Tolkki material but it still has it.

Yep, the soul went out of everything the day James Brown passed away.

He was one of the greats. However, one of the baddest ass performances with soul to spare was Merry Clayton's duet with Jagger on "Gimme Shelter".

Lisa Fisher gives a dynamic performance here on a latter day rendition of this classic track, so if having soul (particularly in a rock context) is what people are so worried about, then look no further than this-

Not drunk. I'm just saying what's on my mind. A whole lot of bullshit.

Depends on what your talking about, however the more controversial stuff does belong in the flames forum.

Skipping all that stupid bashing which seems to have started on the previous pages, I just want to say some things to the review itself: :)

- I disagree with Timo, that they "try to sound" like Stratovarius. They do sound like Stratovarius. As he said, in the end the fans somehow "decide". And in this case, they accepted the "new Strato". :-)

- The fact that there is less guitar playing is apparently. IMO there can be more guitars on the next record again, but I quite like Jens' playing on Polaris. He is really really good in what he does. In future they will surely find a balance between Jens and Matias.

- Kotipelto's "forced" singing. Yeah, it's true, he doesn't sound as fresh as on "Episode" or "Visions". But guys, come on. Since then something between 10 and 15 years have passed!! People are not getting younger. This counts especially for singers. The best example in Metal world is IMO James Hetfield, who - by far - has not the same aggression like during Master of Puppet times etc. That's just the way it is. Koti on "Polaris" is not worse than on e.g. the Elements-CDs. But compared to Visions he of course has changed a bit. Nevertheless, I saw them live one week ago, and he is still able to do all those high tones quite good. :)
