TK's singing

I don't know what you people think about this, but I think TK's live-voice hasn't really improved the last few years.
For example when you listen to Eagleheart live in 2009 and compare it to a 2003 live version, then you'll hear that the 2003 version is much better. I think he makes some words too short now. Like in Eagleheart the word 'for' in the sentence 'longing FOR the deepest desire. There you'll hear what I mean with making words too short.

Don't get me wrong. Of course I admire his voice. He is a very, very talented singer. I only hope that in the future he will sing like he did a few years ago.

Strange. I always thought Eagleheart was one of the easier songs to sing live.

Yeah, that's kind of my point. We all know that he can easily reach the notes in Eagleheart. But in some weird way he doesn't really seem to put much effort in it anymore.

it also depend on the gig and the audio quality. for example live in Montreal 2005 kicks ass! these are the first gigs after a not so short stop.

You are aware that Timo Kotipelto was very ill during the first few shows of the UK tour this year right?

....Each day is different for a singer, you can't be perfect all the time. TK always made great performances, the same today. Sometimes he can't reach that high notes and it's normal. He was ill as Neon says, it's a long time since Stratovarius was not playing live again, they need some time, and it's completely normal too.
You can listen a lot of "old" performances where he sings perfect and a some other that he does not sing that perfect. It's human, and the same for every member. They are not always perfect.

What a nonsense topic.
When one is ill, singing high and loud style pretty much all the way.... Already starts a talk on the 'non-development' of the vocalist after he actually DID those gigs out of power of will.
I'd like to say piss off topic starter, as i do.

Kotipelto can sound just as good live as in studio if his lungs are up to it.
I think his lungs just have trouble keeping up. He seems to get tired quicker than a lot of singers. But then again, he does have harder songs to sing than most other singers.

I agree I think we should take into account the fact that he was sick at the start of this tour

I wouldn't base any assumptions on recorded material. Watch them live and then you will see wether he improved or not. Recorded live audio is bad most of the times... there is a great difference between recorded and real live performance that you are experiencing.

This is exactly what I think. It was wrong from me to say that he doesn't put effort in it. Of course he does. But what Star_Ocean sais here is true I think. And it's not only on this tour. It's since 2006. Ah well, when they come to The Netherlands I will surely see them. As I said, I know TK is as very talented singer.

I think that's the point is that you know he's putting effort into it. I've heard some singers that may sound good however you can tell they are being lazy.
You know your getting 150% when it comes to Kotipelto

The only difference I can really tell between his singing now and his singing in the past is that in the past they had him doing the high operatic type vocal all the time and nowadays he seems to sing more naturally.

So do I.
Personally I think his voice sounds a little dry in some previous songs, but it got much better in Serenity, and even purer and wider in Polaris, especially in those low and mid scaled parts.I terribly enjoy his quality of voice at present

I think he is singing harder than he used to. It sounds like he is pushing and singing louder therfore using more air during the verse and chorus.
He still sometimes is a little flat on certain parts, but he's always done that.
His technique is good, and no other singer in the world has his work ethic. (TK has got to be an easy guy to work with) He will push himself to reach any note even if he is under the weather!

I like his technique, he is operatic yet very original.
