Let no man surrender so long as he is unwounded and can fight.
Re: Sonata Arctica

why don't you stop fantasizing about Jens, pull your head out of your ass, and try listening to some good music, instead of having dreams about getting to bed with the Strato members!
Somehow I still have an account...yay...?

Re: Sonata Arctica
I haven't listened Sonata very much... My friends propaganda haven't reach me..
Anyway they showed sonata's last year concert at Tavastia club, Helsinki on TV. It sounded pretty cool... I think I'll buy one of their records.

Re: Sonata Arctica
That will be a good idea
I have two of their albums. Silence and Ecliptica. Very good cd's!!

Re: Sonata Arctica
I don't like Sonata that much... Too many double-bass drumming. But they DO make great ballads like Shy or Tallulah. And Jens' solos on Winterheart's Guild are amazing

What about their "slows" in Winterheart's Guild?
However I agree with Mafiaboy...Jens' solos are great!!!!

Re: Sonata Arctica
I don't like Sonata Arctica too much. They are a perfect Strato-copy, I think.
Re: Sonata Arctica
Errr....I don´t think they are a Stratocopy..
I have to say SA is my fav band and if they would be so similar to Strato i would have liked Strato from the first song i heard.. Reality was that i turned the CD Player off and didn´t listen to them anymore till i started writing with Pete and i tried other songs but it still took me a lot of time to get used to them.
They are definitely not the same and everybody who says this has to check his ears...
I think they are both good and it´s up to personal taste..

(1601+13)
Not a Stratoclone imho. Of course they are encouraged by Strato's music, but this doesn't mean, that they copy them.
I like this band as well. But my favourite band is Stratovarius, and the reason is, that they make a more variative style of metal. SA plays mainly speed metal, which can become very boring after some minutes or hours. Of course it's awesome live, but they should play some more power/melodic stuff as well. (like for example: Champagne Bath and White Pearl, Black Oceans)

Please compare Speed of Light and 8th Commandent or Picturing the Past with any Yngwie-riff.
But it is true, SA has more elements from Pop music. OK.They aren't a perfect copy, nobody is a perfect copy

Sonata Arctica is excellent!
I really like San Sebastion:
"Sun of San Sebastion eighteen years young today, she is all I ever dreamt but now my skies are turning grey."
I love that line for some reason
I really like Victoria's Secret, The Cage, etc etc. I think WHG is their best album.

Listen to 8th commandment and then listen to Yngwies forever is a long time, the beginning riffs are so similar to eachother.Hellovarius the Simple wrote:Please compare Speed of Light and 8th Commandent or Picturing the Past with any Yngwie-riff.

I haven't killed him yet sir,
But when I do, I shall have the stomach and the liver too,

Re: Sonata Arctica
I am a big, big Sonata's fan. I cannot say they are a stratocopy, they are into the melodic metal scene and that ain't mean that all the bands who arfe ivolved into melodic metal are stratocopies or whoever copies.
As a matter of fact, Sonata Arctica has developed it's own catchy style, (a lot of prog stuff btw in their recently albums) which just kick ass.
I've been following them since Ecliptica came out, but i've heard some old stuff when they were not Sonata Arctica, but Tricky Beans/Tricky Means...they have great songs

Ecliptica and Reckoning Night are my favourits...
And ok 8th Commandment is on their first album but I think they sound really different now. But you might be right they tried to sound like Strato at their beginnings. I bet here are a lot of people here that have their own bands and try to play the songs of their fav band.
Listen to Reckoning Night- I don´t think this sounds like a Stratocopy

I have this idea after listening some tracks in the last two album...Epic metal is another thing but some keyboard atmospheres are similar.

There´s no band without influence from others, everybody has to start somewhere..
