Google searches

Post by miditek » Mon Apr 30, 2007 7:52 pm

Here's a few Google tech thread searches, based on PAF (Pain in the Ass factor). Here are a few that I came up with:

"Fucking HP print drivers"

Results 11 - 20 of about 636,000 for fucking HP print drivers. (0.38 seconds)

"Comcast DNS problems"
Results 1 - 10 of about 623,000 for Comcast DNS problems. (0.16 seconds)

"Dell Hell"
Results 1 - 10 of about 1,600,000 for Dell hell. (0.46 seconds)

UUNET spamming

Results 1 - 10 of about 155,000 for UUNET spamming. (0.37 seconds)

Cisco vulnerabilities
Results 1 - 10 of about 1,340,000 for Cisco vulnerabilities . (0.28 seconds)

Red Hat vulnerabilities

Results 1 - 10 of about 1,280,000 for Red Hat vulnerabilities . (0.18 seconds)

"Mac bigots"
Results 1 - 10 of about 249,000 for Mac bigots. (0.19 seconds)

"Microsoft vulnerabilities"
Results 1 - 10 of about 7,620,000 for Microsoft vulnerabilities. (0.13 seconds)

(Even non-tech types are probably not surprised with this number?)

"router jockey"
Results 1 - 10 of about 153,000 for router jockey. (0.18 seconds)

"stupid geek squad"
Results 1 - 10 of about 593,000 for stupid geek squad. (0.35 seconds)

(Note: The idiots at Best Buy have positively one of the best sources of service and consulting revenue both for myself, as well as my Syrian friends in the local IT sector. Here's a few choice gems that we've heard recently:

>Client "My system won't boot. What's this boot drive failure message mean? Has my hard disk died?"

>GeekSquad "No it's probably spyware, ma'am."

>Client "Can't we just replace the hard disk?"

>GeekSquad "It's not your hard disk, ma'am. I'd replace it, but they won't let me. That'll be $75.00 , please."

>Client, "but you didn't do anything!"

>GeekSquad, "it's for consulting services, ma'am"

>Client, "but you didn't fix anything, and now you're going to charge me for it?"

>GeekSquad "I could fix it right now, but they won't let me use Linux to repair it."

True story, believe it or not!

Miditek's creed: (turning on non-descript foreign accent)

"I no fix, you no pay!" ;)

Windows "Longhorn" Server Beta 3 Ships

Results 1 - 10 of about 485,000 for Windows "Longhorn" Server Beta 3 Ships. (0.13 seconds)

Longhorn Server Beta 3 ships
channel9.msdn.com/Showpost.aspx?postid=303636

Interesting interview with Ian McDonald, Director of the Windows Server team. Ian discusses many interesting new features, including the capability to the "no GUI" installation option. Also, no more of this RCx (Release Candidate) nonsense- at least M$FT is now calling a beta a beta, once again.

Also, given the slim chance that you're running IE today, the channel 9 link above on MSDN is now streaming videos with M$FT's alternative to Flash. They are a bit behind in the streaming thing, but are not yet ready to concede to Adobe just yet.

Firefox will simply send a call to WMP, and then play the video.

"Microsoft Sandbox"
Results 1 - 10 of about 1,290,000 for Microsoft Sandbox. (0.27 seconds) :D

While we're on the subject of sandboxes, here's a few cool ones.

MSDN Labs (ASP2.0.NET, VB, Visual C#, etc.)
msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/virtuallabs/default.aspx

TechNet Labs (ISA 04/2006, SQL 2005, BizTalk, etc.)

microsoft.com/technet/traincert/virtuallab/default.mspx

Vista RTM VirtualLab
(Want to learn, but not load Vista , yet?)
microsoft.com/technet/traincert/virtuallab/vista.mspx

Also, a cool "VM in a web browser" sent to me by an old friend named "netgod".

It's at the following URL: g.ho.st/ (use h-t-t-p!) to access this host..
