I haven't read the comic book, and frankly, I don't really care if a film adaptation is faitful or not. What matters is the film, not the original.

They could've downplayed The Comedian, for example. I think he was somehow detached from the other characters. A shorter runtime would not hurt the film.

I think there were just too many things going on. It would've worked better as a miniseries.

Bram Stoker's Dracula (1992) by Francis Ford Coppola. Very epic and romantic view about the poor undead guy. Actually one of the best movies I've ever seen. Unlike I normally do, I'm not going to write a flood of words to describe its awesomeness because it isn't necessary; the film truly speaks for itself. A Big thank you, bow, kiss and hug and five stars. :)

Yesterday I watched DejaVu from TV, I remember that I rental the dvd from this movie some years ago & is very good!
Today I watched The Last Legion, from my dvd collection, is so good!!!

Nice movie but it has very little to do with the book, I personally liked the movie a lot more.

Dark Kingdom: The Dragon King

A wonderful 2 hour medieval saga based on the Icelandic myths about Siegfried the King. Kinda like a Scandinavian Romeo and Juliet, if you will. :)

In Germany when it came out in theatres in 2004, it was an hour longer. Has anyone saw this movie in that uncut version, and what was cut? ???

Cloverfield: Monster
First time I've seen it, and man! That monster looked just like an angel from "Neon Genesis Evangelion" (if someone has seen the anime, then you would agree with me).
Anyway, although not a big fan of movies like that (I mean, the way it's recorded: Happened the same thing with "Quarantine", but I loved it though), this one was pretty well

Twilight

Maybe it would be better if I would watch this movie before I read the book.
The main actress plays bad, she has the same expression of her face during the whole movie. But Edward... mmmmmm  Wow

Looking forward the extension :D

I saw two weeks ago the film "Postia pappi Jaakobille" ("Mail to the priest Jaakob"). It is a Finnish film and tell about the grace and pardon. Leila, female prisoner be pardoned and released from prison. The old blind man, priest Jaakob, take her to work, as a contributor. People send letters to priest and ask for prayer. Replying to letters is Jaakob's life, Leila thinks that replying is completely useless. Leila has already decided to leave the parsonage, when the letters suddenly stop and Jaakob's life loses its meaning.

The movie was very calm and impressive. Positive story of grace. Beautiful music brought a tear to my eye.

Oh that's Amenábar's new film. I've read about it, seems interesting. Definitely going to watch it, sooner or later.

Predator is great, almost as good as Commando. :D

Thank you so much, Carcass.
I personally enjoyed a lot the film because I love historical films. It is very interesting to see the rise of a new religion and the decay of an old one. People living in the same city, how unified they were until that new religion was born. But I am not going to tell you anything else, I don't want to spoil you the film. :) You just watch it and then tell me whether you liked it or not.
I like Amenábar very much. You know, normally Spanish films are a shame, (Almodóvar for instance) but Amenábar is an exception.

Also, this last Saw offering has the most gore and crazy games of all.

Almodóvar isn't that bad. I haven't seen too many of his films, but at least the ones he has made during the last years are good-ish. I saw La lengua de las mariposas a long time ago, at least at the time I thought it was decent. Then there is Santiago Segura, the first Torrente is hilarious. Julio Médem's film are supposed to be good, although I don't really get them...

I have nothing against Almodóvar, but I don't really like the way he portrays the Spanish society. I don't know if you have noticed for instance that in his films there are always plenty of gays, prostitutes, battered women or transexuals, naked people or even people having sexual intercourse. I mean, it's ok for me if you want to show this part of the Spanish society, it is very normal, but please, I don't like him recurring again and again the same topics, because it ends up being boring. But that is part of the repression. We had a dictatorship for 36 or 37 years and these are the consequences. You don't need to talk about the same things over and over again to make good movies. The first time it is a novelty, an innovation. The second it is not, nor the third, the fourth...
And Almodóvar here in Spain is like a sacred cow, he is untouchable, and many people don't want to criticise him even though they don't like him. It is like if you want to succeed here in Spain as an actor, first you have to pass through the hands of him, and he has a sort of ''sect''. This is a too much shocking word but I just want you to understand me. There are the ''chicas Almodóvar team'' which are typecast actresses.
Now that he is older people start to acknowledge him as a director, but think of Amenábar for instance. He was only 28 or 29 years when he directed The Others.
There are many people here in Spain who are a lot better than him Almodóvar, really.
I don't know if you speak Spanish, but other films I liked very much and I higly recommend you are:
Take my Eyes (Te doy mis ojos) by Icíar Bollaín, Mar Adentro (The sea inside) by Amenábar, 13 Roses by Emilio Martínez Lázaro, Juana la loca (Mad Love) by Vicente Aranda, El Orfanato (The Orphanage) by Juan Antonio Bayona, La vida secreta de las palabras (The Secret Life of Words) by Isabel Coixet and there is a recent film directed by her I still have not seen yet, Mapa de los sonidos de Tokio (Map fo the sounds of Tokio).
Well, I am sorry for having written such a long text. :o :)

Martyrs
French horror movie, not for the weak at stomach. Nice premise, but the sheer torture porn was a bit overblown and distracting.

Up
Are all the writers with great and fresh new ideas in Hollywood working for Pixar only? Funny and indeed uplifting.

Scarface
The uncut Version arrived yesterday. I actually bought the movie a few weeks ago but it was a cut-version (fuck you german movie censorship! Movies are a form of art and the directors and producers have put a lot of thought into them. I want to see the movie the way they intendet and not the way some censoship cunts think it is suitable for me). Awesome movie. Great story. Great acting. I love the larger than live feeling they created. Now after watching the documentary on the bonus DVD I'd love to see the original Scarface.

I simply loved Juana la Loca, a lot more than Mar Adentro. I like Pilar López de Ayala very much, she is a great actress.
I knew Los Serrano were famous in other european countries, but I never imagined they were in Finland. Anyway, I didn't like them. Cuéntame it's interesting, but I don't follow them, although they are really really famous here in Spain, as you can imagine.
So you must have a high level of Spanish!? 2 courses is pretty good I think. Did you study Spanish in Finland? Do you find it difficult or easy?Did your teachers make you read books in Spanish? In case yes, which ones?
Ok, too many questions for today! :)

Not my thing either. Cuéntame seems a lot better, I saw one or two episodes. But I hardly watch TV anymore. I gave my digital receiver to my brother. Good riddance.
So you must have a high level of Spanish!?
No, not really. :) Especially now that I'm a little rusty. It's about 6 months since I finished the last course. I got all the stuff somewhere in the back of my head, I just need some brushing-up.
Did you study Spanish in Finland?
Yup, in my university.
Do you find it difficult or easy?
Surprisingly easy. I didn't imagine that English would give so much help. It's really inspiring when you start to get things relatively quickly.
Did your teachers make you read books in Spanish?
Nope, I don't think we are that far yet. But on the second course she did make us speak with native speakers of Spanish.
