Recommend me Dream Theater
"A Nightmare To Remember" is reallly dark, and I love it as well as "Wither" and "The Best Of Times" (amazing message and song). "The Count Of Tuscany" is OK, but I'm getting tired of such long songs

Have you listened to more albums, mayhem-for-all?
I have forgot to recommend you one of my favourite album, "A Change of Seasons". Great riffs, beatiful soloes and LaBrie is singing very nice. Really epic song!
They plan to go to studio in January 2011 and I think we can expect a new CD on summer 2011 with an European Tour on autumn. I hope they would make something really new, not comparable to others.

Yes! I was reading that the other day. It's amazing! In 2011 new album!
And before that. New JP solo album, new JL solo album and new JMX solo album.

I wouldn't get my hopes up though.
I think it's going to take one more album of the same formulaic bullshit before the fanbase is pissed off enough to make the band seriously re-evaluate their priorities.

Well, after this MP's departure, we can now expect anything from them

19 minute songs with lots of beautiful melodies and emotional playing is a formula, then bring all the formula you want Dream Theater
Re: Recommend me Dream Theater
I hold progressive bands to far higher standards than any other genre. If you're not innovating in prog, you're failing.icecab21 wrote:19 minute songs with lots of beautiful melodies and emotional playing is a formula, then bring all the formula you want Dream Theater
Also, (And I'm sure you'll say it's personal preference, I'm not even sure why I try anyone), Porcupine Tree has always elicited far more of an emotional response from me than DT. DT's always been kinda stale, they appeal on a purely technical interest level.
I also respect bands that can pack all that emotion and melody of a 19 minute DT song, into something far smaller, but still as powerful

That is because Porcupine Tree is Prog Rock, while Dream Theater is Prog Metal...Way to different to meRebel wrote:Also, (And I'm sure you'll say it's personal preference, I'm not even sure why I try anyone), Porcupine Tree has always elicited far more of an emotional response from me than DT. Hoenstly, no. But one thing I can say is that those 2 genres are way too different, and mixing them up is quite common among the fans that listen to both of them

While they were prog rock for their early career, they've introduced very strong metal elements into the music since In Absentiaggonza43 wrote:Hoenstly, no. Re: Recommend me Dream Theater
Does music really need to be put into a category to judge it? I can't see how that will lead to a better listening experience to randomly give music a category and see if it fails or succeeds to standards from that category whether or not the music is or was intended to be in that category.
