Lookin' for some new music

Post by Balu » Sun Nov 14, 2010 5:40 pm

I had many threads like this. This time, I'm looking for some quality progmetal. I got really addicted to Shadow Gallery, and I need something similar to that. Ideas?

What bands do you already listen to?
Are you already familiar with Symphony X, Dream Theater, Angra, and Porcupine Tree?

Yeah, I know all of them, and like 'em except DT.

What's the problem with that? : D
I like most of the DT before Rudess, but I just can't stand that guy or his style of playing. And most of the new DT is just plain boring.

Listening to dream theater is like staring at this picture all day and expecting something cool to come out of it.

Well, that and the fact that Porcupine Tree IS NOT PROG METAL . Still, highly recommend you to listen some "Circus Maximus", and a personal favourite I've been listening a lot lately: "Andromeda"

@ Robo - I liked most of those you posted. That xystus is bad ass, reminds of SX's the odyssey. That diffusion and the gypsy track were cool too.

Found this band recently, can't stop listening to them. They are thrash with progressive elements and they've got a damn decent singer

I really like Riverside and maybe you will too.

Other than that, I got nothing else.

Circus Maximus, listen to the 1st Chapter and Isolate.

Seventh Wonder, I discovered this band some days ago (It is one of that bands that I was like "I will listen someday") They are eextremely talented. what a fantastic band, I think I like them more than Circus Maximus. Wow, Mercy Falls is s jewel.

EDIT: And Balu, if you don't like DT, better do not listen to the bands I'm telling you... :? :? :? :? :?

@Burning Reflection: Thanks, they are quite good, but I'm not a fan of thrash.

@AAAAAAAAAA: I've heard of Riverside a few months ago, never got to checking them out. Now I listened to some songs, and I like 'em. Thanks!

@RazielSR: I know them and they kick DT's ass by far. Thanks tho. : D

@Carcass: I'm looking for something different right now, but I like the song you linked. Thanks!

@mayhem-for-all: Thanks, but any specific song recommendation?

They are new but amazing so you won't find a lot of variety in YT but try their myspaces and buy the albums if you like them. I myself have still to buy the Adamantra debut although it sounds amazing.
Status Minor - Dialog is in my collection and it is one heck of an album.
My favorite songs on it are Something More, Out of These Streets, Fade Away and the epic 15 minute title track.

You should also try "Blotted Science", a progressive thrash metal supergroup headed by Ron Jarzombek, bassist Alex Webster, and drummer Hannes Grossmann. I couldn't post a video, but you can check it here (also, look for some more material at the releated videos)
