You miss the point. I'm giving an explaination as to why the world percieves the conflict the way it does. You don't find people fawning over terrorists, as you put it, but you do find them sympathising with the civilians who get killed needlessly. And far more Palestinians have died in that manner than Israelis, so who do you think the world's media would focus on?miditek wrote:A Time magazine cover that, other than Jens, Beg, and myself, is older than anyone else here in this forum.NeonVomit wrote:...whereas the world sees Israel purposefully targetting UN buildings and schools. Do you understand what I'm getting at here?Shurik wrote:Yeah, they can't target anything, but they throw the rockets in the general direction of Israeli cities, with full intention to hit something civilian. Sadly, sometimes they succeed.I don't think Hamas could purposefully hit anything - from what I gather, they just point their rockets in a general direction and fire.
Amazing how the media stupidly fawned over terrorists even almost forty years ago- this cover is from 1970.

See my rant about our current government.By the way why is that the IDF is suddenly packing it up from Gaza? Did they achieve their "military aims" now?

Ehud Barak is the current defense minister of Israel, and he has already been a prime minister in a previous administration. I do not think he ever was or is a member of Likud, which is the party of former Premier Netanhyahu- who I believe will defeat Tzipi Livni, a former Mossad agent herself, in the next election.stratoplayer wrote:More like the Defense Minister got the attention he wanted for the coming elections... I am sure they miss Bush Jr already...
@bathroy- get your facts straight about the 'Spooky' and 'Spectre' gunships- their primary tasks in Vietnam were interdiction of VC and NVA supply convoys along the Ho Chi Minh trail. Hanoi had decided to cross the borders of Laos and Cambodia in an attempt to hide their convoys from US forces. After 'Spooky' and 'Spectre' decimated those convoys, the VC and NVA were forced to use humans and mules to bring in supplies, since an AC-130 even then could pick up the heat signatures of supply trucks from miles away.
Moreover, the conflict in Gaza could have been brought to a screeching halt if the US had sent over just a couple of Spectres for use by Israel. Flying in 360 circles over Gaza, AC-130's could easily detect the flash of Grad or Qassam rocket launches, and then light their crews up in response before they had a chance to escape- and thus reducing the need for dropping bombs.
@neonvomit- would you care to cite some examples of Netanyahu's supposed fanaticism? What is fanatical about telling US news correspondents that "There will be no second Holocaust", as Iran and Hamas have vowed?
His brother, Colonel Joni Netanyahu died at the airport at Entebbe, while rescuing hostages that were hijacked by PLO terrorists. Do you mock this family?
Perhaps it would be different if the Turks had killed someone close to you or a family member.

I heard an interview with him recently. He was rather... dismissive about the civilian casualties. As in, it seemed that he didn't even care, and someone with such casual disregard for human life is not someone I'd want in a position of power. He then began pointing out cases in WWII where British forces caused civilian casualties... where on earth are the similarities? It just seemed that he was worryingly out of touch with reality.miditek wrote: @neonvomit- would you care to cite some examples of Netanyahu's supposed fanaticism? And yes for your information, we lost many members of our family in the war, along with my entire inheritance and all our property. I've also lost some close family members of mine in Colombia in the war there. Perhaps you wouldn't be so cavilier about war and people dying in them if you had lost anything or anyone in one.
Have I turned into some fanatic? No. Not even my dad who lost everything in the war turned into one. In fact, noone else in our family did. So unfortunately, losing family in a war isn't justification.

Netanyahu vows no nukes for Iran- while Ohlmert and Livni promise round II for Hamas if necessary.

Elections for PM are a little more than a week away.
Hopefully, the Israeli Navy will be flashing the following in Morse code: "Bibi is back"
