I agree with that. She might be really good with her own opera material, I have never really thought she was such a good singer for metal.
In Once for ex, her singing is totally weak and poor.
For ex, Floor Jansen from After Forever is a hundred time better vocalist in my opinion.
Last night, I was listening to Visions Of Atlantis. Their singer really sounds like Tarja.

you're right, Tarja's singing in the older albums is so much better than in "Once". but i still think Once is a great album..

Anyway, I don't care if Tuomas picks up a vocalist less talented than Tarja as long as she has the SPIRIT :headbang:

this whole thing is resumed by 3 words: Sad but True

Now, as always, history is written by the ones who win, but what about the other side of the story?
For example, i met the band 2 years ago, and everyone seemed to be cool and kind, but Tuomas was somehow bored or mad, so he went away and gave us (my borther and me) no chance to even ask for a picture (and that's quite okay, no problem with that). But Tarja was charming and also made some jokes, the same with Empu...
Now, the second time i met them (3 weeks ago) i found the same thing going on, i won backstage passes to Nightwish, and believe me, everyone at the band behaved so nice and kind, specially Juka and Tarja (again), but it was sad for me when i saw the same "diva" attitude comming from Tuomas and not from Tarja as himself calls Tarja being a "diva", so these letter doesn't say enough for me, at least not from what i have seen.
That day was unforgetable to me.
I can't take all the things the band wrote as the whole and total truth of facts, let's be wiser than that and give Tarja the chance to explain her reasons, then we all can come up with conclussions

Dammit, this is hard, i love Nightwish.

I don't thin they will take the singer from another band. There are lots of unknown people that also have talent. Think of BG choosing an unknown guy to replace Thomen Stauch...

I've never would expected something like that in a band like Nigthwish. Is just unbelieveble.
To me Tarja wasn't the best female singer ever, sometimes I don't feel feeling in her voice, but the diva attitude, is strange.
I hope this will be solved soon. Till then, I won't say anything about (except if something important happens)

It's impossible now when Tuomas posted this letter on the official website. Tarja is now out of the building and everybody should accept that. This is the life of heavy metal bands : someone out, someone in. Tuomas & guys had already a new singer, but her name will be revealed soon as possible on the website. Life carries on...

I don't know what to say 'cause I wasn't a great fan of this band but isn't fair to have an attitude that could destroy it. so, I agree with Tuomas and the guys

I totally agree with that. We should consider both sides of the story. Besides, everyone seems to be blaming Tarja's husband, but what about Tarja's own personality? A person has to have a really weak personality in order to be so easily changed by another person. Maybe her husband had something to do with Tarja's change, but I'm pretty sure she wasn't forced into changing. There are also two things I don't like about this letter: First, it shouldn't have been an open letter. What happens with Tarja is the band's private business and I think that Tuomas should have contacted Tarja in private. To make all those bad comments in public about Tarja is a somewhat treacherous act, as they went behind her back. I'm not saying I support Tarja, but there are better ways of dealing with a break up. Second, I don't like that comment about "cultural differences mixed with opportunism, blah blah". Cultural differences have nothing to do in this matter. That's a somewhat ethnocentric comment by Tuomas, which pretty much implies that certain cultural differences are irreconcilable. I don't know Tarja's husband; maybe he is a complete asshole, but even if he is, that's HIS own problem as an INDIVIDUAL and has nothing to do with his culture in general. Both Tarja's husband and I are Argentinians, but that doesn't mean that I would behave just like him. Tuomas generalizes too much. And I also don't like how Tuomas mentions the fans in his letter and how Nightwish is as much about the fans as it is about the band itself... That sounds patronizing and demagogic.

Exactly, that "cultural differences" makes no sense, and it is worse when the next words are "money, oportunism, etc, etc..." that sounds to me more like a racist comment and again senseless.
Plus, that letter show not even the lesser of objectivism. It is sad to see lack of respect comming from "icons" and "profesional" people.
Yet i am not supporting Tarja, maybe she changed as Tuomas say, but c'mon, that's not the way to manage problems, that's a coward way to shield themselves from critics, rumors, fans, and they made it foreseeing Tarja's replica.
Maybe the fact that Tarja is any longer with Nightwish is sad, but it is even worse the way things happened.
There are people who would probably give a damn about it, as i can see in past posts, but for the ones who care, let's just cast rumors aside and wait for Tarja's official statements, then we'll have both stories.

Totally...a fresh start for Nightwish as it was for Strato, though situations are completely different as it has been said. Tarja has been too much time in the band as a "guest singer". I do like her voice but being in a band it has to be for the magic not for the money. For some girls, now there is a little hope that Tuomas be the band´s image and give much more interviews and so on...Certainly nothing bad about it. :P

I like Nightwish a lot, so I find this really unfortunate. As much as I like Tarja, I give the four guys credit for doing what needed to be done. Tarja went "Gwen Stefani" on them and they wouldn't sit for it.

What really dissapoints me is that this happened right as they were getting popular here in the States. Musical ability and mass appeal are two things that rarely go together here in the States. I was hopeful that they might get popular and be one of a few bands that might help to change things here. They could help bands like Stratovarius and Sonata Arctica get some widespread exposure here in the States. Inspire bands and musicians here to raise their game.

Who knows what will come next. Van Halen successfully repalced David Lee Roth with Sammy Hagar. They werent quite so lucky with Gary Cherone.

I hope Nightwish continues on to even greater success, and that Tarja does well also.

Bummer. I'm a big Nightwish fan, I've been following them since Oceanborn and I think pretty much all of their albums are great.
That said, band personnel is not particularly important to me, at least compared to the actual musical output of the band. I would have to say the same thing I said when Kotipelto and Jörg was out of the band: If the new singer is good and the next album is any good, I'm going to buy it, and if not, then I won't buy it.
Same thing applies any other time someone leaves/is fired from a band. If I may paraphrase Bill Clinton, "it's the music, stupid!".
If I would base my record purchases on how humble the singer is or how nice a guy the guitarist is or whatever, I don't think I would own any records at all.

This whole thing reminds of the Royal Hunt debacle a few years ago, when keyboardist / band dictator Andre Andersen fired DC Cooper...on Royal Hunt's website. In that particular case, though, it turned out quite alright with John West being a more than able replacement.
Give me liberty, or give me cake!
