Top5 is just too impossible because the existence of too many good band, so I'll make a Top10 list:
Stratovarius + Tolkki + Kotipelto
Yngwie J. Malmsteen
Sonata Arctica
Iced Earth
Sentenced
Judas Priest
Iron Maiden
Rhapsody + Turilli
Altaria
Insania
+ (I have to add more)
Nightwish
Children of Bodom
Warmen
Arch Enemy
Black Sabbath
Twilight Guardians
Twilight Ophera
...
And so on. There's just too many good bands available.

So you children of the world, listen to what I say
If you want a better place to live in, spread the words today
Show the world that love is still alive, you must be brave
Or you children of today are children of the grave

Toutes choses étant égales, par ailleurs, la solution la plus simple est toujours la meilleure.

Re: What are your favourite Bands?
I don't have 5 favourite bands....i have about 500.

Re: What are your favourite Bands?
Only 5 choices!
I am gonna change the rules a bit and remove Steve Vai and Yngwie Malmsteen from the "band" category and classify them as solo artists. Their bands are always in flux (especially Yngwie's). These are also probably my two biggest guitar influences. So I will just put them out of this conversation.
So now, my fabulous five!
1. Stratovarius
2. Iron Maiden
3. Helloween
4. Nightwish
5. Van Halen
I have over 530 CD's, this was difficult. So many great bands. I have other great bands in my collection as well. Yes, Pink Floyd, Mahavishnu Orchestra, Living Colour, Dream Theater, U2, Genesis, Styx, Journey, The Police, and Rush. Solo artists like Phil Collins, Frank Zappa, Billy Joel, Peter Gabriel, Jan Hammer, and Sting.
I could go on and on.
