Daaaamn, that was a really good version.

Deris is a really good live singer and showman.

Comments on any youtube video with Deris are ridiculous..Yes Kiske had the voice of an angel and all that, but Deris is VERY good, unique.

Saying that someone dislikes Deris doesn't bother me at all, but when people say that ''Helloween died with Kiske RIP, fuck you Deris!'' or ''Deris raped this song he should die!'' Is just downright stupid.

Like it or not, Deris IS Helloween. Without his albums keeping Helloween on the forefront of Power Metal, KOTSK would be much less regarded than it is today.

Is there any news on a new Helloween album?

Check their site. www.helloween.org
They've revealed the album title and the complete list of shows for the European Tour. And they still say that it will be released around halloween. (end of october)

Yes! I loved GWTD too! But I guess this album will be even more heavy. They said that Dani does his fastest drumming he ever did in Helloween on this album. Can't wait! :D

yes i mean , deris has been with helloween and have more input that kiske ever had, but im sorry to say , they are wayyyyy far from the super group they were with kiske and with hansen.

they are a terrific band, i loved the legacy album (im still consider it would have work very well with another name, stupid marketing desicions ......)
I that is a good version of eagle fly free. more raw if you like it, but with kiske is just perfect. of course many of us never had the chance to see that.

Can't decide between Kotipelto, Hansen and Kiske. Tolkki was awesome, too.

Had to go with Hansi in the end. He's so much more eclectic than anyone else on the list but Allen. Hansi also has that completely own sound of his. That powerful near-growl thing he can switch on and off on the fly. From that voice I always get the vibes that he sings too loudly into an old microphone that makes the voice crack, which added much in John Fogerty's or Eric Burdon's raspy voices for example. Except that he doesn't, he sings with modern equipment.

I'd love Kürch to cover I Put a Spell on You or The House or a Rising Sun for example. :)

This voice is all about power and what seems to be a tough training, because he wasn't much of a singer when he was young. And this is just one of his many sides. His high register these days is outstanding; he's even gotten that aggression for his high-pitched stuff on At the Edge of Time that pretty much lacked still from A Twist or ANatO. He sings that way even though it doesn't seem he could do it. Also, he's a master singing calmly in mid register (ballads). During this he still sounds very powerful btw.

He's just a perfect singer to make the aggression appear or disappear out of nowhere. He's good at interpreting just about anything, except I think he can't be anything but loud. :P His voice is so very powerful.

What counts most though is that I prefer his voice(s) over those other singers, except maybe Kiske whose high register for me is magic and, tied with Mercury and Kürsch, hearing his voice pleases me the most. ^^

Others worth mentioning in the list for me are Russell Allen, Timo Kotipelto, Andre Matos... and even Kai Hansen for his sheer unlikeliness and charisma. :D

Also, no Lande, Barlow, Hayer, LaBrie & co. on the list? This is some huge Finno-German-Brazilian scene only. Plus Allen who's as much a power metal singer as LaBrie would be, wherefore I mentioned him, too. I'd imagine he could be the favorite singer for many people, too.

totally JORN LANDE had to be on this list......also.....I think michael kiske has developed a sound on his own and have one of the most imitated tones and vibrato in the bussines.

Finno-German-Brazilian is the only power metal that matters. Except Italy.

You disappointed me utterly. :( I thought you had a Hansi appreciation post of your own, but instead, you quoted my whole message just to tell me your opinion about the best power metal countries. :D

Yeah, well, Italy have some pretty big bands but I don't count any of them among the best in power metal really. One that should deserve more, and comes with one of the best little Kiskes (yes, adrian9, a lot of them...), is a former Helloween tribute band Trick or Treat. Here's Paper Dragon for example. Lovable. <3 :D Not the best quality though. :( And it sounds so stereotypically Italian, so be warned if you don't like the sound. :P But a metal band that's covered Girls Just Want to Have Fun cannot be bad, can it?

Also everyone knows Swedes are good at this kind of melodic metal music. :) And that American progthing isn't too far away from power metal. I dislike stuffing music into genre boxes in the first place, so maybe it's just me who can state something like this. Oh, and Kamelot is from the States as well. Nuff said. :P

I've only heard good power metal bands out of Australia, Denmark and Austria so far. Maybe I should dig further down those.

But i guess it's understandable when your competing against Tk on a Stratovarius forum. :)

Sorry for reactivating old topic, but... on Tuesday I was on Blind Guardian gig and it was really really AWESOME

And Hansi's voice (after 20 years of singing like Deris, Hansen or Kotipelto) he is still perfect. Low notes, high notes, calm and loud, falset, vibrato and all the emotions are still there.
Look at the setlist
Image

From Past and Future Secret to Born in a Mourning Hall

And I must say: Sacred Worlds as a intro is a killer and Wheel of Time in an encore too

If you see setlist from following days each day they change (which is rare in metal). In other shows they played i.e And Then There was Silence, Blood Tears, Mordred Song, Voice in the Dark, Punishment Divine, This Will Never End, Into the Storm (with War of Wrath) or Ashes to Ashes.

It's really great and please don't say me that with 45 years man cannot sing.

Last not least: the new CD is really good

How is Fabio Lione not on that list, but Kai Hansen is? He is, by far, the best power metal singer, and one of the few that I'd call and actual "singer."

After that, I love Marco Sandron and Alfred Romero. Bridget Fogle and Elisa Martin are my favorite female vocalists. In fact, Bridget Fogle is probably my favorite vocalist of anything other than Fabio.

Yeah, Fabio is really good singer, but I have sometimes problems with understanding his English and i.e. Hansen is pretty good understandable.

I'm aware that it is not the most important thing in vocalists, but I do notice it. My choirmaster always corrected us to sing more precisily.

But Hansen is not a good singer at all, even today. He is really entertaining and has a good "power metal" voice, but as a singer? He is god awful. It does not matter if you cannot understand them or not; if their voice is awful, nothing else matters.

Also, I'll say right now, Michael Kiske is incredibly annoying and overrated. Listening to him sing Dr. Stein is absolutely horrible.

It's your taste, Hansen is not my favorite vocalist, but I like his voice and there is no point in discussing about it.

Kiske is a bit overrated, but I've been this year on his concert his vocal range really impressed me and what it is important he sings clearly (and this is very rare in metal), but Hansi put more emotion to his voice so on one CD (ie the last) we have a big palette of his vocals.

Nice setlist! I heard there's a big chance of BG touring Latin America next year. I missed them when they played here in 2006  This is a band that I absolutely must see live!

And of course 45 year old men can still sing! Well, Andi is actually 46  And I've just recently seen this performance by Nocturnal Rites, another 45 year old singer who still sounds as great as ever :D
