...This spring. What the hell are these guys on? Some performance enhancer?

Hopefully it is as good as Cold Embrace of Fear and not as crappy as Frozen Tears of Angels.

But why?

I really don't like his work. If you have time and quite good audio system compare i.e

Avantasia - Angels of Babylon (production&mix: Sascha Paeth)
Nightwish - Dark Passion Play (production&mix: Mika Jussila)
Judas Priest-Nostradamus (production: Tipton&Downing, mix Attie Bauw)
Blind Guardian - At the Edge of Time (production&mix: Charlie Bauerfield)
Katatonia - The Great Cold Distance (production&mix: Jens Borgen)

Which my favorite is Jens Borgen mix
In my opinion, all the rest sounds better than Avantasia mix by Sascha Paeth.
Tell me one reason why do you like his productions?

I'm interested in this topic, because I mix myself some rock and metal stuff.

well my all time fave should be mikko karmilla.
but sascha is just great, everything sounds balanced the guitar sound is always very warm, not crystal clean o super processed, the same with the drums, bass and so on... also he is always working with miro that i consider a hell of a keyboardist and arranger.
sascha has done a loooott of works from epica , kamelot, edguy, avantasia, the virgo record he did with andre matos, rhapsody, etc etc..he is great. plus
The album 'The Scarecrow' was released in 2008 and was officially amongst the 20 best selling albums all over Europe upon its release, it entered the charts in 15 countries, featured the Top 10 hit single 'Lost In Space' and producer Sascha Paeth received an award for 'The Scarecrow' having been chosen "Best Rock Production 2008" by the Association of German Sound Engineers (VDT).
but what the hell the association of german sound engineers or I ,know about producing and mixing anyway?

Of course Karmila not Jussila. Sure. Those Finnish names :)
Karmila is great, last Sonata Arctica, Nightwish stuff really rocks. His works are very powerful. I.e the drums in "Master Passion Greed"

That's true that Sascha's stuff warmer and more than i.e clean or huge or spacious, but... I don't buy, but thanks for the answer I really wasn't abusing anyone. I'm just curious about other opinions than mine.

Yeah, I know that Sascha has got an award, but Scarecrow I rate higher than other his work (just like new Avantasia or Rhapsody). Maybe Germans really hadn't any better productions :) Also Kai Hansen has his own studio and last GR stuff was mixed by him. But this is very poor.

Have you listened to Borgen's & Castillo stuff with Katatonia? It's nearly my ideal.

At one point, they actually called themselves "Hollywood metal" or something ridiculous like that.

They are, indeed, very Hollywood and cheesy metal, but if that's what fans like of them, I don't see a reason to change their music. Besides, do you imagine a different Rhapsody :D?

yeah I´ve heard some stuff by katatonia but too little to have an opinion, but so far is cool stuff, well mixed of course..and I think germans the same quality of a finnish , dutch or swede production it just a matter of taste.

sounds like its going to be the last in the saga. why would it be their last forever? the band is doing well and feel they are writing better than ever together

why would the music be cheesy? It's well performed and well thought out.

I hope not. Yeah, maybe last album to the saga, but not their official last album. Right? :err:

Well, seems I was wrong, just gonna be the last chapter of the saga!

On TFTOA, there were pretty good songs:

On the way to Ainor, Danza di fuocco i giaccio, Raging Starfire...

Nobody is denying that, in fact the history behind the music is just awesome. But you have to admit the music is becoming very repetitive, and mostly their last albums are sounding always the same

Because it's Rhapsody, it is cheesy by universal law

It's like asking why Villains are evil. You don't go around debating that, the debate is if OTHER things are similar enough to villains to be evil. Rhapsody sets the bar of cheese.

I'm not denying it, in fact I also think Rhapsody is cheesy. But you are arguing with icecab21, and that is a natural law of an epic discussion :D!

I think that they should end rhapsody with this album, create another outfit and go on....Like seinfeld, leave when you are on the top. is the decent thing to do.

I go the total opposite way.

Cant stand their lyrics and story, aweful, disgusting, lame, sick...

But fucking hell, their music is just so... cheesy and awesome!!!

chees·y (chz)
adj. chees·i·er, chees·i·est
1. Containing or resembling cheese.
2. Informal Of poor quality; shoddy.

either you guys are saying the music resembles cheese, poor quality is awsome, or creating some new definition.
